I'm gonna say it now, this author doesn't understand age. A bunch of things in the street aren't going to hit on 8 year olds. much less, those eight year old aren't going to be wandering the street. Ain and his classmates look and act much closer to teens, so I'm going to go out on a limb here and say the cycle in this world is half the speed of earth, making this his 16th birthday. Even if I'm wrong it's not my head canon so this series is less creepy

Why are people complaining about MC being only 8 years old and getting engaged, or that Knight Girl having feelings for MC.
Its not that odd though, considering the era level of that other world.

If you look in the past of Earth, it wasn't odd for Prince's or King's to get engage at an early age (or right after they are born or even before they are born), or have women older than them as wives (since a Prince/King was supposed to marry multiple women, it wasn't necessary to always have a young wife or concubine).

Your argument is actually the incorrect one. The other poster is saying why are people thinking its weird, when in the context of the work it does make sense, its the same with how people constantly flip out over slavery in fantasy works. Yes to our modern sense its odd, but the characters are not us, and we are not that protagonist in that fantasy world, to those character it is normal. So I think thats what the poster was trying to allude to , that people are trying to judge a work outside of its own setting by our current standards, which is completely nonsensical.

That being said as I said in an earlier post, this is just Japanese media in general. Whether games anime, etc, due to a lot of how harsh working life is in Japan, and even China and other Asian countries, high school life is often idealized, and viewed kind of as a high point. So thats reflected in media, I mean for a good chunk of Naruto before the time skip, the character are like 12 and fighting life and death battles, the characters in high school dxd, which is super raunchy, are literally in High School its in the title, Kira is 15ish in Gundam Seed, you know the dude piloting space robots in space wars, Cloud is 21 in FF7 and by that point in time he is already an experienced mercenary, Leon from 8, Zidane from 9, Tidus from 10, and Sora from KH are all teens from what I remeber as is Noctis in 15; i think the oldest main character in a FF game is Clive 33, pretty much the only Main in FF that breaks 22. But the none of these character really act the age, either in terms of mentality or physical development. But thats just how it is.
