Surprised you didn't use the 4 volume Wide-Ban version, maybe there more expensive?

Anyway that's more dedication than me (I use digitals cause I know how to rip them, don't know how to use a scanner, don't know how to level it, and I don't want to make a mess)

I just grabbed the cheapest edition I could get, (not saying the postage was cheap). I just was so dissatisfied with the digital quality in comparison, ebook should re-release their old over 10 year old books. Only the color pages are from the ebook. The digital was so bad that it made almost impossible to read some of the furigana which is quite important for some of the jokes.

And I don't even have a scanner what you see is just pictures taken with 4k phone camera, and free scan app. Of course, I'm quite good with cleaning up the remaining noise from the pictures. I have now scanned through the first 2 volumes, and I have to say it was quite painless to use iron to heat the bind and take the pages out. After I scanned I "hammered" the pages back with the old glue and the books are basically as if never unbound.

Breaking down MC and his desk mate's names:

MC: 女 (Suke) 蛮子 (Banji)

New Girl: 男 (Dan) 男子 (Otoko)

The reason other characters get them wrong is that all 4 names are extremely unusual (there's like 10 people in Japan with the surname 男) but 3 of the names are common words: 女 = Onna = woman, 男 = Otoko = man, 男子 = Danshi = man + child = boy.

Meanwhile, 蛮子 isn't a word or a name, but 子 (read "ko") is an extremely common end to a girl's name, to the point that you can tack it onto a lot of things to get a feminine name. Just not 男.

So Japanese people's first guess for the two names are gonna be "Onna Banko," and "Otoko Danshi," and they'll assume that Onna Banko is a girl and Otoko Danshi is a boy.

Oh right, also it's hilarious that MC's dad can fill out a school entrance form complete with a bullshit essay about why they changed schools in seconds lol.
