I can usually get behind modern knowledge improving magic... but the plot needs to be there, too.

Looks like this one did have a WN that was translated by Darkstar Translations, and another group. I might pre-binge.

This is the kind of story I like, the only thing going for the protagonist is the bit of water magic they have, that's it. Not super cheat level stuff just that.
Has nothing to their name and is dirt poor, they work their way up from the bottom run of a slum gang. And OVER TIME slowly earns trust by giving good ideas and that gives weight and swey to their words. She dosent just say , just because. She gives valid reasons on why and how it will benefit the gang and that improves her standing and the conditions of those around her. Hopefully she could turn this slum gang into a legitimate business venture.

Besides some... weird world building (a leader of a crime organization apparently didn't care about cleaning slave quarters because he... didn't know filth leads to disease... sure, that might make sense if this were a gag manga, which it isn't) there are some interesting ideas. Gonna keep reading to see if it gets over some of this initial awkwardness in presentation.

There are some other things, like treating the invention of boxing and non-lethal bouts for gambling as a new idea, when in the real world most gladiator matches were non-lethal specifically because of how utterly idiotic killing your entire stable of gladiators you spent time and money training would be. These awkward story beats make the organization look more stupid than the MC smart. Surely the logistics and costs of getting new slaves every match was noted to be a sizable dip in the profits?

This isn't a new issue for early chapters in series where an author wants to get to their "big" moment and have clearly glossed over some steps on the way there, the biggest quality check afterwards is seeing if they start tightening up their setting before the next large event or if it's just an author that only cares about those individual moments.

I hope my scanlation team would accept my suggestion to translate this manga, it's hard to read it in Japanese😓

Being honest here, this story may sound generic (isekai stuff yk) but, the way the author utilizes that ideia is amazing, shame that theres only 7 chapters, it's refreshing, really well written ( no mrs.edgelord or you saved me, now im yours!!! blushes) also i want some of that water too

Ascendance of a bookworm except stuck in the slums in a crapsack world. It's interesting enough to keep me reading despite the constant unpleasant feeling it leaves. Hope she can get away from there before she grows up, their values are already starting to rub off on her and I'd hate to see yet another Isekai protagonist stop finding slavery atrocious. At least as of chapter 8 she makes no secret of how uncomfortable it makes her.

For once I am glad it's a (reincarnated) child protagonist, because in an environment like that (and a nasty world and setting like this) it is better if there's no reason for anyone to take notice of her for anything but her magic.
