I’m not defending the author’s writing cause maybe they enjoy drawing and sol much more than dialogue and conflict… but there are too many people to count across the planet and through history that have committed crimes and failed to get away with it for the most arbitrary and simplistic reasons, regardless of guilt or being cocky or stress = not being able to stop talking. But from the ladder to everyone’s position/motivation and stuff, trying to shove these stories into 3 chapters or whatever and then fit a rom com sol with comedy hijinx… idk if the author needs more chapters per arc or one long mystery over many chapters with a main antagonist to flesh out tension and balance the rom com stuff?

There actually is a reason for that. If it’s discovered to be a murder after all, she’s going to be the least suspicious person. After all, “why would she go through the effort of making it look like a suicide and then claim it’s murder?” It’s a simple psychological trick.

That said, I agree the author isn’t smart.

• “It must be suicide because there’s only a single set of footprints.” Is the idea of backtracking really that outlandish? Plenty of kids do it in the snow during winter.
  
  
• An untrained woman carrying a man 73% her own weight, while walking perfectly normally? Unlikely. Putting him down cleanly while maintaining the posture needed to leave those prints? Impossible. Unless she was carrying him in front, but the rope prints suggest otherwise.
  
  
• Speaking of rope prints, none were found on her grandpa during the autopsy?
  
  
• Standing on the old man’s body crushed his organs but didn’t crack his ribs?

It doesn't matter who believes what, Japan's court system is not a TV drama like in the US. It's not about convincing anyone with theatrics and the jury does not give final ruling. There's either enough evidence to link her to the murder beyond reasonable doubt, or there isn't. In this case there's zilch, all conjecture like in the previous incidents. As in all other chapters, the culprit only goes down because they admit it themselves. The author really isn't bright enough to come up with a quality intrigue.
