I think it was just to set up the kingdom of pansylvania as evil & (possibly) show that they had a hand in originating the Oder (?).
I do agree it was a waste to kill off a bunch of new characters. The author probably should’ve had them be nameless or something.

I mean the British are pretty self deprecating but I think what he's saying is more so how a lot of Japanese ips have to have JAPAN NO 1 EVERYTHING MADE IN JAPAN NO 1 mentality.

You don't see a lot of media were everything is a circle jerk usually there's some form of criticism about some aspect of it.
