I bet that the mc will say that he is the one that doesn't deserve them and trying to put a distance to all his friends over a single misunderstanding like he did in chapter 1, and that misunderstanding is not good enough for a reason to put a distance. And it takes over 10 chapter to clear that misunderstanding and after that he got 2 girls aiming for him, and all the boys look at the mc in a different light. And mc feels like everyone put a distance to him. Bullying started, and his friend saves his ass from getting spanked, and he realize that he got values, and trying to do the haircut ritual to became a better person, and suddenly all the person in the school aware that he is handsome with extra steps.

I think your dismissing insecurity’s a little too easy.

In high school it’s very easy for a teen to over scrutinizedby themselves and some people never grow out of it, for me in high school I had a lot of self hatred for no particular reason and felt like all my friends were my friends only because they were too nice to tell me to piss off, it wasn’t until college that I started to change that view.

I always looked at myself as a lesser and thought people were disappointed in me but I had a honest conversation with my friends and it was enlightening to say the least, i realized that I simply was overthinking everything.

All I needed to do was talk to the people around me and my problems wouldn’t have grown as much as it did, Mc here only thinks his self worth is being the best friend of the #1 boy in the school and he simply doesn't have the courage to confirm or deny it.

TLDR: Mc’s issues are real and I personally sympathize with him.
