maybe it just looked like he was talking to a wall and bluetooth/ear-phones aren't as common of a thing (tho small food trucks aside i can imagine some restaurants with a lot of space would have it to talk to the other chefs/line cooks if not like a 'radio' or so depending on how famous/busy a place is), but we probably needed a dialogue to just emphasize the 'weirdness' happening lol , but i guess it's good they can't see it bc cosplay aside, they might freak out if eventually one of them did cross over (tho i imagine they can at least get inside his truck to help(?)/hang out , based on the volume covers' art)
