He agreed to hang out with her, the two of them at the school festival
Then the second he could, he ditched her and went to fuck his ex til nightfall while she waited for him.

So, Yuu is most definitely a dick...but we do not know that what you said here is the case.

We only know two things: 1. Yuu met with Yami and they shared a kiss and 2. Yuu was missing for awhile and finally came out of hiding. Beyond that we know nothing. For all we know Yuu pushed Yami off of him during the kiss (if Hikari didn't see the whole thing) and then got into a fight with her. Then he ran away and just sulked in a corner somewhere because he felt terrible.

I am definitely thinking though, that he doesn't really have feelings for Yami anymore and is back to liking Hikari. He would not have asked Hikari to walk around the festival with him if he was uninterested in her and more interested in Yami.

No matter what the way that Yuu has handled this so far is pretty terrible.

They both still like each other, they spent something like 30% of the flashbacks fucking and it just so happens that they both up and vanished from the festival after making out in an empty classroom - They either fucked or had the biggest fight ever.

I don't exactly want to be the "Yuu defender" or whatever, but I do want to say that I don't really think we know anything about him. It's definitely wrong for him to be lying here but we also don't really know why he is lying, and it is shitty to stand your friend up but there's a lot going on here.

The only things we've seen about Yuu are from really biased perspectives - Hikari and Yami. Hikari clearly doesn't know him as well as she thought she did (she was surprised to find out he masturbated for heaven's sake, and we have no context for his relationship with that other girl who showed up at one point) and what we saw from Yami was a kid with an inferiority complex and someone who was genuinely thinking about their future together.

This chapter is the aftermath of Yuu meeting his ex-girlfriend who ghosted him and cut him off, completely out of the blue to him - I'm not entirely sure how I would react in that situation but I don't think I would stick around for my friends in that context either tbqh, I'd probably be feeling like shit. We know that he kissed Yami but we have no idea what happened after or before - frankly we just don't know this dude at all. Maybe he does end up being a huge jerk, I wouldn't be surprised, he's a teenage boy.

So i definitely have some thoughts-

1. That...really wasn't the reaction I expected from Hikari I think it broke her a little bit she feels deeply betrayed and (at least currently) she's probably way more upset at Yami than him

2. Yuu is being an awful person/friend here but I'm not sure if he's doing it to protect himself or not remember these fuckers are still only like 16-17 they're not very mature and don't fully understands it's pretty much always far better to just be honest even if it means confronting an uncomfortable situation and possibly upsetting someone this isn't defending him necessarily it's still shitty of him to do I just think that's important to remember- also we don't really know what happened in between the kiss and now

3. I genuinely think despite not being a good person Yami might actually end up feeling guilty about what happened especially if she catches on to how it affected Hikari since she definitely seems to care about her at least to an extent and I think that would be genuinely good character progression for her

4. Honestly this chapter kinda got me reinvested- i'm not gonna say the manga is good again but I'm genuinely interested to see what happens now
