mc, remember why you were building the thing... you don't need the noble investment, it doesn't need to be a train, it just needs to transport you and your friends, build a car mc, you can do it, is easier than a train.
People keep forgetting that it's not about the investment, it's Permission.

Also, remember the path that they took when escorting the princess. It's not just a road, they travelled through forests, and a freaking mountain. A car isn't really good at driving through anything that isn't a flat straight road.

These ppl seems to know only city cars, as if off road vehicles are foreign to them...
Being able to travel at 3, 4 or even 5 times the velocity of the existing transportation, allows ppl to modify routes of travel, including safer routes that would take longer time, using the existing methods of transportation.
And the permission only comes into play because is a train.

And that's really the reason why the girl was chosen as the main constructor moving forward, she represents the common constructor. If someone like her can work on it, then maintaining it will also be done by someone like her. She's not special in anyway, and those are the people who will eventually maintain the rail system.
It is also a good way to raise the "worth" of producers in the verse.

We just had half a chapter about how the prince doesn't get any respect because his class doesn't let him be a warrior after all

Idk why people are calling the duke dumb. He has every right to complain about the tech.

If no one is able to maintain the tech by the time Miyabi's gone, it'd just be an unusable relic (and one that can open a lot of holes in the capital city's defenses too since it is a giant tunnel with no way to deter anyone from trying to walk through it). He knows Miyabi is an outlier when it comes to his skills, he just needs to see tech that a regular crafter is also capable of learning and maintaining so Miyabi wouldn't be the lynchpin of the entire technology.

He can handle getting people to reheat the greenhouse when it stops working (and it breaking isn't the end of the world either since it's mainly a luxury for his estate). He can't handle the train suddenly not working especially if it's a public project that people are going to depend on.

Basically, imagine if all the planes slowly stopped working with no one being able to fix them for potentially a long time, and now the only way you can travel between areas are via land and water travel. Things that would've only taken you a couple hours of travel by plane now will take you days and months on land/water to accomplish. The economy would crash due to the disrepair. As someone of his position, you really don't want to be the one having to handle the fallback when the technology eventually breaks.
He's being dumb because he's acting antagonistic to someone with absolutely insane ability that has no reason to work with him. He's risking completely losing access to Miyabi's abilities (and potentially Miyabi even going to help his political rivals) by being rude and uncompromising rather than actually work with Miyabi in a reasonable manner. And sure, he's a noble. He can do that. But that doesn't make it smart.

As you've said, Miyabi is an extreme outlier with a crazy valuable skill set. Hell, this project alone will, if successful, be an enormous windfall for the duke's family and territory. And at any time, Miyabi could say "You're being an ass, so I'm not working for you anymore." and just leave. The only reason that hasn't happened is because Miyabi is both kind of a scatterbrain and easygoing to a fault. Historically, famous craftsmen were well known for their eccentricities, such that nobility allowed them a variety of privileges to keep their services. Miyabi's not famous yet, but everyone with a brain can tell he's going to be, and already has the skills to be.

Yeah, but that doesn't matter to Miyabi. Even as a crafter, everyone already recognizes how valuable he is, especially since, as a commoner, there's not the expectations of him that a noble would have. And Miyabi has no reason to care about the duke's plans, especially when the duke is acting like a dick.

Are people here being serious?

Do people here really haven't understood the character dynamics established for the past of tens of chapters already?

Does Miyabi need to have the nobles and country's permission to do his shit?
- No. He doesn't need to... if he is a monkey equating to an uncivilized caveman. But he is, the world he's in is not the game anymore. He's in isekai and HE'S NOT A COMBAT MONG THAT CAN FEND FOR HIMSELF. MOFO CAN'T EVEN DETECT WOLVES! NOT ONCE HE MADE A GODDAMN WEAPONRY WITH THE PURPOSE OF PARTICIPATING COMBAT!

Why does he ask for permission?
- Japanese mentality of asking for it especially if it encroaches other's property.
- It's just the right action to do especially for a selfish project of this scale.
- It has been established that despite Duke Beldini can be hard to please, he is reasonable and will give his blessings once all bases are covered.
- Angelum is lead by a well respected, reasonable noble.

Why not just ignore these nobles and do it anyway?
- What the fuck is his contingency plan for it? Flee to another country? Have Liz get roasted by the nobles and royalty? Cause problem to everyone who now respects him and ignore all of those 'cause "fuck you and this world shall be like the game I played and build whatever the fuck I want!".
- Bluntly speaking. The world will continue to function without him. As much as he is an outlier and stuff... HE'S NOT A PIVOTAL FUNCTION OF THE WORLD.

Why does Duke Beldini kept being "dumb" and "unreasonable"?
- Because he's looking at everything in a wider, broader scale. Doesn't mean he's ignoring the small stuff. In fact, he really pays hard attention to them.
- He is a learned man. Manages his territory, politics, economy, and many more. The fact that Miyabi opened himself and asked permission for his UBER selfish project, which TOTALLY AFFECTS more than just Angelum needs huge considerations and thinking.
- Miyabi may be important, BUT HE'S NOT NEEDED TO BE THE SOLE PILLAR OF COUNTRY-AFFECTING PROJECT. Duke Beldini still haven't got a clue of Miyabi's origins. He TRUSTS Miyabi according to his merits because he PROVED himself already. But dumb leniency is dumb and a betrayal to his character being a learned man. A number people here clearly haven't worked in public projects that takes millions of money to work with so they can't really understand the stuff the Duke's concerned with.
- Miyabi is presenting UNCHARTED progress for Angelum and the country. It would be understandable if it's a warping, teleportation pad or door... or something like that and it can be kept secret. BUT MIYABI IS PRESENTING A TERRAIN CHANGE ENCROACHING AND DRAGGING EVERYTHING WITH HIM UNINTENTIONALLY IN IT. To say it wouldn't be the Duke's business is plain tomfoolery.
- The most important here is that Miyabi's selfish project is a huge boost to all crafters' reputation. His only daughter is getting married to a prince with bottom rock reputation 'cause he is a crafter. He is hitting a huge flock of rewards if this goes through. Exaltation if you will.
- Another important part is that, Miyabi respects and trusts him. Vice versa, he trusts Miyabi too but knows all well that this project shouldn't lie only with Miyabi now that there's huge stake in here. Thus, the Condition of Diffusal by having other crafters be on it and have Miyabi supervise them. This is to make sure that everything Miyabi have done in the trial stages can be accomplished by others in the same profession. Like I said earlier, Miyabi shouldn't and must not be the sole pillar of operations. The man is not bound by the country but bound by trust and loyalty to Liz. So if he poofs, his short term projects goes poofs and negatively affect everyone. But Liz has love and trust in her hometown and country thus Miyabi by extension, pays respect the place that houses Liz. It's just that goddamn simple. How the fuck can't they recognize this. Duke Beldini trusts Liz too 'cause she earned her merit and trust of not just him but his daughter too.

Miyabi decided to play by the rules because he decided to. Duke Beldini kept making it a rollercoaster because everything has turned into necessarily involving everyone that can be involve into it. This is not a power scaling manga nor it is like the Tenku no Shiro where everyone in the mortal coil can just be at an awe looking at the giant floating rock icicle. This is a series where all characters are playing with the set rules in the world while Miyabi will utilize his advantage if necessary as he plays by the rules too.

Thanks for the chapter, all those utoon teasing notifications were annoying. Duke Beldini does have a point but it seems like there are no time stipulations on getting Karon to be able to operate it herself ( we are all in agreement that's why she didn't join them in the bath)

Miami could just lowkey have built it and traveled to see his friend without telling anyone but I guess he is too upstanding for that level of shenanigans
Considering Miyabi talked to her mom and she explicitly said "her daughter" was working as an apprentice, Miyabi is about as dense as a neutron star if it doesn't concern party matters or his personal interest.

I mean, he has no idea it was her mom, he just knows that some girl is an apprentice somewhere in the city, which is very vague (he only knows one crafters group, there are more).

I'm more surprised Karen hasn't corrected him on the karon mispronunciation at this point. or even the other crafter who should know since he worked with her before (they're part of the same crafters group). hard to realize if no one puts in any speck of effort to point it out kin fact, waiting makes it worse cause how would you know you're doing something weird if no one points that out for months)

All this can be solved if MC just built it deep underground in secret, and he is capable of that. No one would ever know. Just like how the orc never knew how they got wiped out.

Of all unreasonable comments so far, this one scared me the most. It make me questioning the manner people these day expected from other. We didn't become too entitled, right?

Let keep it completely logical onwards, since I'm afraid this might blown up badly otherwise.

In my honest opinion, the duke do nothing rude towards Miyabi since the page 37, when they disembarked. In fact, I think, from that point onwards until when he pointed to Karon, everything the duke said was explicitly supported with reasons. Without any sarcasms or arrogance. It's on the level of elaboration I expected from court decision. Assigning Karon might looked demanding, but not without reason.

You may disagree with his reasoning and argue logically upon them. But I cannot see the rudeness you mentioned, nor what make him unreasonable.

Hell, I myself made an argument several, several chapters ago that Miyabi could be a logistics division and sapper corp all by himself thanks to how his abilities work. I wouldn't be surprised if the prince ended up being known by some epithet like "The Instant Fortress" or "The Castling King" or some such after Miyabi's teaching.

The Duke KNOWS he can just plop fully formed and furnished buildings anywhere he pleases, nearly invalidate an entire team of miners, throw together intricately enchanted items, and generally just be a force multiplier... and as we saw with Karon, he's keeping an eye on how far a crafter under his tutelage can go. The fact he's even suggesting putting Karon in charge is probably a positive hint to how he feels about the matter... after all, he just watched her create MULTIPLE greenhouses for him, to his specification, during the time Miyabi has been away (approximately 6 to 8 weeks at this point iirc).

Duke is playing the long game on multiple fronts and people are getting mad he's apparently planned it out. The deadline actually makes sense since the Prince is getting shipped out their way too. He needs the work at a stage that the concept phase is out of the way and practical work is ready to begin... because if his future son-in-law is linked to a project that will fundamentally change the kingdom for the better....

It feels like there is another point to this.

What the Duke probably wants to know whether other Crafters can achieve the same as MC.
Aka., Duke wants MC to teach other Crafters what he could do.

There is also the fact that even the Prince is now coming to Angelum.
Meaning MC would have two Crafters under him during this project who could learn his skills and apply them to create the Train System.
Calling it now, crafters will be essential in maintaining the next/final iteration of the train, thereby raising their social status

There's nothing "low key" about tunneling several kilometers underground and through a mountain.
Have you seen the tunnels that Palestinians and Cartels build? Iirc some of then even had small trains/minecarts

It's not tunnel expansion but line expansion that is the issue. Right now, Miyabi is the only one who can make those engines run. the Duke wants to invest in technology that he will be able to use even if Miyabi disappears right now.

What I was mainly implying with my comment was that the "magical" power statement doesn't make sense. The inset pictures, describes the magnitude of what he can achieve, but not how others can't do it. The only thing that he has over standard people with skills, is speed and scale(where that magic power comes into play, but isn't a deal breaker). Nothing he has done is impossible for other people to replicate. It's not like Miyabi has ever said, the design of anything was going to be secret. The design of the "Mole Express" isn't highly technical. It was probably made in conjunction with the Apprentice blacksmiths (Again, he is an architecture buff and doesn't have a recipe for any of the pieces). The only weird thing is the Wind Enchantment Engine Block. Probably made with Iron or some other metal/metal alloy. The manga implies enchantment is a rare skill but not impossible to source. Karon(Karen)/Crafters/possibly other magic users, can probably enchant just not with the speed and/or accuracy that Miyabi is capable of. (Ch14 pg18). Again, he can leave an Enchant Diagram for the specific enchantment design. He obviously isn't going to the Duke's House every day to redraw the enchantments on the Hot/Cold Water Blocks. They're just charged by his servants.

And Again this is a prototype. The Engine Block can and probably should be broken up into less technical pieces for easier/Non-Miyabi construction/maintenance. Just based on the crude explanation, you could probably cut the number of "engine blocks" by half, and just make a Wind Direction changer/Engine Block rotator instead and just have 1 block. (Pointing Back, Front, or Neutral[pointed orthogonal to the directions of movement, or even just blocking the hole.]) In terms of charging the blocks, you would want multiple people to charge it, instead of just 1 Miyabi. Or, have multiple Engine block segments that would be less powerful individually and thus be charged separately by multiple people.

If his bath fails due to improper maintenance after a few years, then the Duke will go back to paying someone to heat water for him.

If the train fails due to improper maintenance after a few years, then hundreds of people onboard may die.

All that depends on the final design for the system. But assuming Magic Enchantments don't explosively fail, the primary issue is you would have a runaway train with an engine block that wouldn't be able to slow the train down. Which Miyabi wouldn't be able to "fix"/rescue people anyway, since he's not riding the thing every time it moves. For an abnormal Engine Block, your final train design would need a method to either eject that core, or isolate it so it doesn't provide movement. For the train itself you would need to have crash redundancies at both ends of the track: Impact barrels, water, external friction generation, a literal pond/lake to sink into, whatever. And it probably needs some method to separate the Engine Car from the other Train Cars. So, let's move on from the Train part. The other maintenance issues could be from the Track. Again, you don't need/want Miyabi to inspect/replace those parts either. His Monopolistic Rental Rate for that would also be astronomical. In the real world, we have normal people without magic fix that stuff. It's not that difficult for skilled laborers.

For possible Cave Ins, as I mentioned above, Miyabi offers speed and scale of work, but also probably at an insane price. You would have regular people do inspections of the tunnels themselves, and any repairs. Miyabi's powers makes the initial construction cheap and quick, but the actual work can be done by average people on a normal time scale.

And currently, the planned train is mostly for Cargo, not passengers. So probably at most dozens of casualties. Hundreds, is probably a significant portion of the population of these cities. And they would not be riding these trains all that often. Only Miyabi is thinking that it could be a Commuter Train. Primarily, it would be merchants traveling with their cargo to market.

And I never mentioned it, but it's such a cute add-on, that Mel's Cabin Crew Cap, has a Small Cat Logo on top.

Except for the fact that the person being transported through the tunnel is supposed to be somewhere that takes a month to get to, her getting back the next day would be plenty suspicious. People at the guild will notice a person that is attending academy a month travel away is reporting quest completions every week. The guards will also log and notice the weekly entrance/departures. When they come investigating and find the unauthorized tunnel, they'll jail Miyabi as Liz pointed out when the whole tunnel idea was conceived (the whole reason he's asking permission to begin with).
And at any time, Miyabi could say "You're being an ass, so I'm not working for you anymore." and just leave.
That right there illustrates the entire problem the Duke has going forward with the plan as is without the new conditions. This is a multi-territory project that includes the Royal Capital, everything hinging on a single person is not sustainable. If the project is complete as is and the status quo become using the train for transporting people and goods, there will be mass disruption if Miyabi the sole person able to maintain the system leaves or is unreachable for whatever reason.

The fact that people have such big problems with the Duke being reasonable, explains why dumb characters in dumb manga are more popular for similar readers.

These people only understand dick-waving contests and short-term release, and not of long-term consequences.

In other words, holy fuck. Why is this manga so hotly-debated compared to other isekai slop when the main thing about this manga that stands out is compromise and thinking things past one person's wants and needs?

Karen's still very much an outlier, as well, though not to the degree of Miyabi, and shifting all of the production duties for a massive infrastructure project from a team of people to one individual is... actually worse. What he should want is a system of standards and documented procedures that can be replicated by any craftsman of his choosing. Rechargeable or fuel-based propulsion. Even a backup plan for the use of the rails. You SHOULD want to be able to cut One Guy out of your national transportation infrastructure plans. That's how robber barons happen.
You forgot one point.
It wasn't shifting from a team to a one individual.
As the whole situation is same as before.

What changed is that the Crafting work that MC was going to handle alone was shifted to Karon instead, everything else is same.

Also, there is the fact that, substituting the work that MC does alone isn't easy or feasible by standard workers. They need Crafters to learn MC's method to achieve it.

And fuel based system isn't going to work either, as that world doesn't have any system like that to begin with.
Their common mode or transport is still by Carriage, and fuel is just used for lamps.
And MC doesn't have the technical knowledge of fuel based system.

That's why MC replied on Enchantments.
But his methods are unique to him.

Which is why the Duke presented the new condition, as he wants MC to teach his methods to other Crafters. Aka., Karon would learn from MC and later teach others as well, this increasing the overall standards of Crafters.

you talk as if cars don't run at good speed on land. And if monsters dive-bomb the car, then caravans between cities would be impossible. And the "brake problem" was solved already.
And you forget why MC wants to create the new transportation system and the fact that Cars need proper roads to achieve full potential.

In a world were the concept of paved/pitched road doesn't exist outside cities, running a car isn't going to be feasible, especially with what MC is trying to achieve as explained in prior chapter.

On a unpitched/unpaved road, the maximum speed a standard normal car could achieve is around 10-20 Kmph. Not to forget, a road doesn't always go straight and has to go around various obstacles.

What MC is trying to achieve is to travel 600 Km in under 12 hours, meaning he needs to reach a speed of 50kmph or higher.
To maximize the efficiency and save time, the best method of travel would be to go straight in a line, which isn't possible by road (aka., by car). Which leaves only two options, either by underground railway or by flight, and MC know only the other one.
And the railway project is more feasible because it would allow others to join in which would get him the permission required to dig under the property of other people.
