Tanya by the end of the series:
Maybe the "safe job in the rear" is the friends I made a long the way.

Peace is still better than war times though
not really

war cuts through the red tape of complacency, it's why technology rapidly develops during wartime and allows for fresh philosophical conversation that couldn't happen before because everyone didn't have a reason to change their minds as they barreled towards war by holding those beliefs so stubbornly

ultimately, most humans are pointless and war is the great cleanser of itself, like fire clears old dead wood from a forest and afterwards a forest is far healthier despite the devastation

Yes war does indeed make significant technological progress, at least short term, per person. However a LOT of people with potential to be great scientist and discoverers are just put into the meatgrinder which cancels out bigger possibilities that peace time gives long term.

Guess which countries are least developed nowadays? Those that still have constant wars. I don't see them making any notable progress in technology or medicine.

If most humans are pointless, are you pointless as well? Are your parents and friends pointless too? If not why they/you are not pointless? What defines pointless to you?

Times of peace is not the same as "peaceful society" though.
There is no need to say peace time is better than war time, from pretty much every metric that is true but a society that knows war even in time of peace is not weak nor misguided like a peaceful society.

1. no, those that sign up for the military and end up in grunt work that stay in the meat grinder role throughout by the time they hit the front ARE the ones who wont do anything big in life

2. the least developed countries are the countries that lack the resources to develop, they aren't suffering because of war... war is occurring because they lack the resources to develop and will never develop as they are failed states, plus even they push forward into asymmetric things like drone warfare if they have at least one competent person in charge

3. most likely yes

@Manchura @Greedygreen
Let me show you one of the most poignant anime scenes ever on this subject:

It is very easy to talk about peace. When your peace is wholly built upon the misery and war of those less fortunate.
You live in the "first world". In your lives of incredible plenty. Without realizing your peace and plenty only exists because of exploitation in the so called "third world". Their wars and exploitation fuel your fat stomachs.

So this good peace of yours. Who is it really good for?

It's the just war and the unjust peace...

1. Let's say there were some newborns with very big potential living in one city, then suddenly that city got nuked, and they all got turned into dust, would you still say that they would not have mattered had they not been nuked? What would newborn know of the world when it just arrived into it? How would it evade the war if it wasn't even given chance to begin even having sentience?

2. So you're saying those least developed countries that have continuous wars will never develop despite you saying that war is progress? Like drones are not even a thing they invented.

3. If you think that you're pointless and everyone you know is too then why have you not offed yourself yet?
Probably cause you still know that there's still something that has meaning to you specifically.

------------------

@Elrinion the thing is currently there is no peace, cause there's people that think that war must be good, that there are good reasons to wage them, when in reality it's just their biological leftovers from the ancient times fueling their hunger for violence and expansion.

War is not just it's animalistic.

War is very natural to all lives in general (the most obvious example are ants) but to be human is to grow past this limitation, which sadly probably won't happen in my generation.

1. changed the subject from those who aren't capable to do anything to whataboutthechildren who, mind you, would be created from the bottom of the barrel of those left during any war effort due to the way a country at war functions on a social level

2. they wont progress because they are failed states, war pushes progress but if you are a useless state with no potential for progress it's like multiplying by 0, it creates 0 no matter what you multiply it by

3. being functionally pointless =/= suicidal, it just means that humanity's progress wouldn't be harmed if they were lost

you rely on a lot of emotional equivalencies to try and proclaim rationalistic positions are somehow wrong

This is some;
  1. hard times make strong men,
  2. strong men make good times
  3. good times make soft men
  4. soft men make hard times
Bullshit.

I posted the exact philosophical grounds of the argument at the end and yet some are still misreading it...

truly an internet moment of all time
