i can see that being lied to because no one really trusted you could break a person. i wish fujichika-sensei would put his arc a bit more on the latter part to be more fleshed out, being ursula's previous master and all but even then it's enough to know that he was being manipulated
It was probably the point that we never see that. Kind of like a self fulfilling prophecy, he had the potential but never believed in himself and never accomplished anything — his life was also cut short and left unfinished
I am just gonna give my guess here, I have a feeling the mastermind behind this is someone close to Kotomi, probably his father? We haven't seen him at all aside from that one flashback.
