What was the point of the Isekai portion?

Clearly it meant nothing to the character as nothing he had learned there thus far had any meaning to the bleach/yu yu yakusho mash up plot he's living in.

In fact, I am convinced that the Isekai plot point was thrown in there just so that the main character could swing a sword.
