I'll say this a second time, I guess...

I can almost accept this reasoning for not claiming your work, but I'm still very put off by the need (in Japanese [and other Asian] storytelling) to hide the initial large victory in EVERY. SINGLE. STORY.

Like, find a new trope, people! It's great if you do the Chinese thing, where you hide it for the big reveal during the award of honors for the second great victory, but... Japan just does the hiding, and often for multiple acts of heroism, and never hets arpund to the reveal!

hes being naive if he thinks she wont notice the truth if i was her I'd be more upset that he feels the need to hide it from me his friend

I agree with you on why hide your overall strength and success. But overall it mainly the authors fault for writing those cliches. At times it can be written off well. But for the most part it comes off as redundant.

Alternatively this one seems to be a decent example of it being believable. The fear of ostracism and fear. But the fact that he killed several mercenaries as a 11 year old. Whereas the guards struggled to kill one.
