This manga is a jewel.

The story is very simple, the characters are fun, cute, and charming, and the art by itself is good, nothing groundbreaking, but the artist IS very good, but... the way the fights are done.

Since I started reading this manga, I still can't believe how INCREDIBLE the storyboarding of the fights is, it is... cinematic, there is no better way to describe it.

I have nothing against when images are "still panels", but the greatest artists are those who can draw motion in a way that is vivid... Satou-sensei goes a step further, he composes the scenes like they are part of a movie. There is a dynamism here that I very rarely see.

Which brings me... to the anime... truth be told, I knew the anime wouldn't have the same feel as the manga, which is... kinda ironic.

When they chose the artist to draw this one, they struck a DIAMOND mine, i dont think i would like this story as much as i like if Satou-sensei didnt had such a incredible hand for composing the fights, and by some things i read he may have made a few changes in the flow of the story too, or maybe the Sagasaki-sensei did those to vary the versions a little.

With each new fight this gets better and better as new strong fighters enter the story, with diverse style of fighting, and the fact that you can see that they fight diferently of each other is amazing, like someone pointed out... the fights play like a dialogue, you can see the words not written in every motion of each character.

Seeing the way the old man uses his magic was a joy.
Preach!
I love how he can still let the comedy parts be what they should without over-relying on gag or chibi art

I thought I'm okay with reading archaic english but wth is "yclept".
The shadow is probably the previous sword saint.
As for the anime I'm highly anticipating Kuruni's fight because that's such an interesting way to use 2-handed sword, I hope it's well animated.

First, unrelated to manga. The anime is okay, but after reading the manga i can't help but have a slightly higher expectation and sadly it didn't deliver on the ep3, ep1 was quite decent and enjoyable.

Now into the manga, holy shit. What a cool fight from old man Beryl fighting against the vice principal, probably the 2nd strongest magician so far. The realization and "enlightment" after being told that his sword can cut magic is super chill, he immediately change how he is fighting against a mage after one of the disadvantage fighting against mage is gone.

The vice principal had a sad past with his student that want to combine sword and magic but unfortunately something happened to him making the vice Principal really against with sword, thankfully with Ficelle comes to the mage squad and having old man Beryl won the fight now the vice Principal want to learn sword too which is kinda funny but really awesome.

And the last panel, that shadow definitely the sword saint as the mentioned on first panel. Shit is going to be fire next chapter, Old man Beryl vs the Shadow of Sword Saint.
I already gives up on pretty much non mainstream action anime, every fight scene just turns into jpeg with lines and enemies being cut already.

There is no sense of that "wow" anymore, it even crept into SoL and RomCom which was a low bar to begin with.

They just turns into glorified colored manga panels.

so... the only opponent with same level of threat for him is himself?!t that's more interesting for sword-magic seinen/shonen manga.

we usually find ourselves reading some peculiar conflict(s) of action mangas where the MC has level power equally toward divine being such king of dragons, king of spirits, or even the god.

Because why bother writing an interesting character when he can just win every fight while staying the blandest most generic dude in existence

Bros this is so fucking peak i can't man...

Old man turned ally, having a legitimate reason he dislikes spellblade instead of just being a hater, the fucking thing in the basement sending out a humanoid lmao

And the fight being a joy to read, both combatants LEARNING from a spar, sure they had to prove who was stronger but to have a spar with both people walking away winners? Absolute cinema.

Anyone watch the anime? How has the adaptation been so far?
I think it's decent but don't expect it to be like this manga. It's adapting the LN while this manga is also an adaptation that changes a lot of things.

You really have to give it to the Vice-Principal here. The match was quite good, and notice that he observes Beryl recapping the match immediately afterwards, and is already analyzing what happened and looking for improvements to be made, and then enrolls in (or at least audits) the swordsmanship class in order to himself analyze and become more familiar with the curriculum in order to augment and improve his sorcery. An old dog for sure, but still able and willing to pick up some new tricks.

The older dude's awesome. Not only gave a clue to even things up, but decided to experience the training himself after.

And the most dangerous game for an opponent eh? Only thing that would be right is a mirror match?
It should be the past sword saint who the magic commander talked about at the start of the chapter as being the one person who bested her in the past.
