seeing as magic is real in that universe, its probably not a stretch to assume that previous kings or high priests cast a blessings that protect the deers from diseases and the kingdom armies actively hunt down known predators to ensure their 'messenger of god' are safe.

by now, these deers are nothing more than a swarm of locusts that where the armies and peasants are forbidden to touch nor harm them but only to watch as their crops and livelihood suffers.

one solution that the current king can do to resolve this 'crisis' without calling outside help is to lift the ban or remove the status 'messenger of god' by working or pressuring the state church that allows the armies/peasants/hunters to trim down the deers population.
