I think their misreading is understandable because this story's connection with harem is a little complicated.

  • It's not a harem because the affection from secondary characters is within non-romantic bounds for single-romance, non-romantic, and real life contexts. There's not even third-party pining. Case closed. Literally not harem.

  • The story satirizes harem. That includes friendly affection, which alludes to the original timeline and rivals. Teasing about romance and rivals will be misread as harem. Teasing a harem is a fairly reliable heuristic for recognizing harem, and this meta-about-harems story trips the heuristic.

  • An episodic cycle of characters approving of and even flirting with a protagonist is common outside harem, where it's almost universal. This builds up the protagonist's self-esteem and apparent worth. Suzuna notes this, and is living evidence the trope overly idealistic, because she needs one close ally above friendships.

The story and Suzuna's troubles are only one degree removed from harem by satirizing it, so it will be extremely hard to convince people their yuri/shipper goggles are on too tight until well past the halfway point. Especially if their heuristic or personal definition is satisfied by the bevy of tropes common for harem stories.
The original assumption isn't the issue. That's all fine and good but those of us who have read the series are telling them it's not a harem, not labeled a harem, not called one by the author, not marketed as a harem and doesn't end as a harem and they still insist--someone even arguing that the series might deviate from the source material, despite it following it nearly 1-to-1. At that point it's just weird stubbornness on their part and a bit confusing.

I remember there were people arguing in the prev ch whether this is a harem or not...

I think its safe to say its becoming one? Both heroines we have rn are more interested or I'd say revolving around suzuna now.

Ah yes, from the heroines being all over the male character for no reason to them being all over the female character for no reason.
Riveting.

All the heroines are glomping around suzuna, now which one of them will steal the heart of suzuna. Since 2 of them already declared they're fighting for her

Shindou has revealed his true alignment as a sandwich gremlin... :pepehmm:

I'm loving the jealousy arc, the drama is so fun. As much as I love the main pairing's chemistry...I also wouldn't mind if it diverges from the LN...

Kokona disappears after a few chaps in LN, same goes with future heroines after the triggered events. The only one that progresses is just Riri since both of them are possessive of each other.

their jealousy realy makes me uncomfortably while reading; it's not in the slightest way fun for me to read.

People who keep saying that the heroines took interest in Suzuna for "no reason" is so funny. It's like they don't read the manga at all.
The manga that says the dude is popular for no reason and then has the main character behave in largely the same manner and be popular in the same way?

The story isn't exactly deep, but then again the in-universe reality is supposed to (I think?) be a typical dumb MC-gets-the-girls-for-no-reason, so I guess that makes up for it...? Maybe? No, but for real, I like it. Thanks for the translation. (y)
