Went back and skimmed a bit and that's more or less the case. Specifically, 30 years prior, they performed a summoning ritual that would summon a divine messenger in 30 years to save them when/if the calamity appeared.

So, yeah, they knew shit was going to go down and were preparing well in advance and ended up with MC.

I'm willing to bet that's what will happen. He can see that it looks like the curse reforming the dragon so that's where he needs to Dispel for sure. But once again, no sign of Analysis-san 😩
