I agree with you in principle, but I think that if the author wants, he has a lot of room to maneuver to continue the plot of the series. One correction: Michiro is the only person in the world who can see job levels, their existence outside of the Explorer job is theorized at best but unconfirmed.
There are no unlockable skills or anything like that, or at least if there are then their requirements are insanely high. In neither the WN nor the LN there hasn't been so much as the slightest hint of anything along those lines or indication of it happening. A job can do everything it can do from the moment it's acquired, the only limiting factor is how much MP you have.
are you SURE that that is what she meant? maybe they just don't keep track of it like we do, a cultural thingBut actually, the real WTF moment here is that people age by seasons ! The world automatically enforcing the whole, "new year came, now everybody is one year older" is hilarious.
i disagree. because if he did, then Michio would've just released them all, but they'd stay anyway. absolutely nothing says that they must be his propertyThat last part becoming more and more apparent as future girls are added, is one of my favorite parts of the novel. The author went to great lengths to make it clear that all the girls are VERY happy with their arrangement, and to make it seem as natural as possible.
You know it's been a while since I read the web novel so I don't remember the specifics, but I do remember several instances where it came up to discuss what the girls' other options in life were, what they got out of serving Michio, and the benefits they got out of their current arrangement. It may have been overly pragmatic, and the innate magically enforced hierarchical nature of it kinda ruins any sentimentality to it, but Michio was always the one arguing for more relaxed or equitable arrangements and was always rebuffed, mostly by Roxanne and Sherry. Moreover, there were also instances where Michio overheard the girls discussing such topics or their general feelings on their current situation amongst themselves, and they were always positive about it. To me, repeatedly hammering these things home qualifies as going to great lengths to show the characters are happy with the situation and attempting to make it seem natural. The authors' success at such, of course, lies in personal opinion, but that doesn't change how extensive the attempt to do it was.i disagree. because if he did, then Michio would've just released them all, but they'd stay anyway. absolutely nothing says that they must be his property
I'd need more context, as much as possible. If you're talking about the black dots on the trees branches maybe that's the guild's attempt to avoid counterfeit cards, as in if somebody tried to make a fake guild card the guild could check the dot pattern against their records to see what profile, if any, it matches up with. That's purely a guess on my part though I don't remember it being mentioned off the top of my head in the novels but I could simply be forgetting it.![]()
Just one thing, do you know why the ID card has more than a black dot on the profile and what does that correspond to? The tax rate to be paid or the person's knowledge ?

i'd agree with you if there was some tangible effect, like HP sharing between them all, or something like that. so that they WOULD be freed from slavery de-jure, however the current arragement just makes them safer while they risk their lives every day. something like that. You know it's been a while since I read the web novel so I don't remember the specifics, but I do remember several instances where it came up to discuss what the girls' other options in life were, what they got out of serving Michio, and the benefits they got out of their current arrangement. I've been pondering the question since you made the comment and am trying to ask around, but none of the theories I've heard thus far make logical sense to me. I'm not particularly a fan of your theory, I think it's some sort of progress tracker, but a tracker for what I haven't come up with a good guess for it yet. If I think of a good answer I'll let you know, I'd also be interested to hear what anybody else thinks to see if anything clicks logically.I'm talking about the black dots on the ID card.
We know there are 21 white dots on each profile.

On the first id card he got in the first village, we see that there are no black dots so we can imagine that after a certain time they disappear or that the mayor officially declared them dead.
![]()
On the man who will be declared a slave after the theft of the Bandana, we see three black dots so we can imagine that he was an ordinary citizen before this theft
![]()
the first time we see Michio's card he has three points so he is an ordinary citizen
![]()
The first time he kills thieves for bought Roxanne, we see that they only have 2 black points which implies that they are slaves who fled before to have master in their first year, I explain why later.
![]()
The first time we see Roxanne's card, it only has 1 black dot, which implies that she costs the owner 10,000 nars per year. This was paid by the slave trader because she was trained for over a year.
![]()
The slave trader explains to us that a citizen pays 30k nars per year and 10k per slave.
![]()
When he buys Sherry, we see that she only has 2 black points on her card, because she is still a slave in her first year and does not yet have a master, like the thieves that Michio killed in the previous images. Basically, I think he removes a point when he changes someone to slave status and tax not be paid yet.
![]()
When Michio buys Sherry, we see his card has 6 black points, 3 more because he has to pay the amount of a normal citizen for Sherry, who is in her first year, so 6 black points equals 60,000 nars in taxes to pay.
I didn't post a photo, but when he buys Roxanne, his card still has 3 points because he doesn't have to pay anything for her for a year or less. Knowing that the merchant explains that he trained him for 2 and a half years, he probably has 6 months left before paying 10,000 nars per year at the time of purchase.
![]()
The last time we see Michio's card, there are 3 white dots left, so 21 white dots minus 3, he has 18 black dots on his card, so according to my reasoning, 180k in taxes to pay. 60k Michio and sherry maybe 10k from Roxanne since the time, there are 110k left in my reasoning, so I tell myself that you must also pay a tax for the cities you visit, like 10k per city from your place of residence to ensure that only merchants transport goods between each city, or other reason, but I don't think this has anything to do with skills...
![]()
On the latest thieves' ID cards, we see 3 black dots, so they were also ordinary citizens. We'll see if the black dots disappear if they take a long time to collect the bounties, or if a knight is needed to declare them dead and the cards become completely white.

Okay, I'll hit you up with the best theory I've been able to come up with so far. It ideally needs the series to be re-read with this in mind to see how well it holds up, but every other option feels impossible to me and to give a quote:I'm talking about the black dots on the ID card.

What do you think ?
Basically, when I see a knowledge tree in the middle of an ID card, everything leads me to believe that it obviously represents a skill tree that evolves according to its level of development.Okay, I'll hit you up with the best theory I've been able to come up with so far. It ideally needs the series to be re-read with this in mind to see how well it holds up, but every other option feels impossible to me and to give a quote:
“Once you eliminate the impossible, whatever remains, no matter how improbable, must be the truth.” - Sherlock Homes
Preamble: 21 dots, or 20 if you want to claim the first one is always lit by default for living people and only the 20 after that matter is a strange number, it doesn't really line up with anything in particular that I can think of that's been mentioned in the novels or anything else. An even bigger problem is that during his time of owning Sherry as your pictures show Michiro went up by 12 which is over half of the possible amount, what changed during that time to make it shoot up?
This is the only thing I've been able to think of that it could be:
The 21 dots represent some like or a combination of fame, prestige, notoriety, or something akin to a loyalty card system.
Having 3 dots is basically regular adult freeman citizen levels who haven't done anything particularly noteworthy, with one or two less for children and young adults or slaves who've basically completely flown under the radar up to that point. Michiro may have gotten his initial 3 either by default or due to saving people from the bandits. He may have gone up to 6 later on because he bought two slaves or perhaps for killing the thieves he did to earn Roxanne. As for going up to 18, I think he got those for the huge help he's given to the Duke of Harz in both his relief efforts delivering supplies to flooded villages and getting those mirrors from Palmasque because of how incredibly well he did for them which to the Duke makes him an incredible adventurer and marks him as somebody special who's worthy of the time and respect of nobility in general, effectively making him famous.
Meanwhile I think the tree branches and the dots on them are some sort of an achievements system or something like that, with the most basic achievements at the bottom and the harder ones towards the top of the tree. It could be for things like easy achievements of the first time selling specific materials to the guild, medium ones like turning in a thieve's bounty, or harder ones like earning a platinum coin in a single transaction, or something like that.
One thing that doesn't fit in with any of my theories and I don't know what to make of it is the four dots in the top left corner like the petals of a four-leafed clover. I considered the possibility that they're basically an overflow tracker for the 21 dots, as in something like "When the 21 dots fill up, the top left black dot moves once clockwise and they reset back to 1/21", but then I don't know what to make of Roxanne and Sherry's cards.
The only way this question would ever truly be answered though is if somebody wants to ask the only person on earth who knows the answer for sure:
https://x.com/HyoujyuIssei
If anybody knows Japanese well enough to ask, feel free to try.
To answer this specific point, I would take up the theories that I develop on the relationship with taxes and/or cities visited. Because the only things that intensify between these two moments are the number of cities (guild gate) and dungeons visited, the number of objects found in the dungeon, the number of equipment or goods purchased for the group, and therefore also the number of money earned and this is all that has increased significantly, or also Michio's skills. An even bigger problem is that during his time of owning Sherry as your pictures show Michiro went up by 12 which is over half of the possible amount, what changed during that time to make it shoot up?
"Last but not least, the vase and the Reset symbol.Basically, when I see a knowledge tree in the middle of an ID card, everything leads me to believe that it obviously represents a skill tree that evolves according to its level of development.
And I thought of that right away.
The problem is that between the moment we first see his ID card and the moment he buys Roxanne, the card hasn't moved. And now he's already entered a dungeon and use spell, killed a group of bandits, sold their weapons, collected the bounties, and the same goes for the five thieves, but his ID card doesn't move.
(This picture is the moment when he buy Roxanne)

Regarding the clover in the top left, I don't understand the meaning at all either. I've tried seasons, social status, locations, skill levels and others, but nothing satisfies me.
The only thing I think is right is that each individual through this action can unlock 3 categories of black points on the Id card (that I circled in the photo) and which follow the path until falling into the basket to be sent back into the tree in order to take place in their specific category.

Last but not least, the vase and the Reset symbol.
For me, it all has to do with skills like when the skill vase is full, you can reset your stats.

However, from my point of view, if the card shows a person's skills then the slave trader and Sherry would surely have reacted at the time of the will when they saw the sudden change.

If I follow the theory of cities, Michio is at 3 points until the moment of buying Roxanne because he never left the city of Vale, on the other hand before Sherry he used the guild portals of the imperial capital and of Quratar and of its dungeon so he takes 3 black points (1 point per city and per dungeon) and then he travels through many cities to reach Palmasque and the elves and passes through other dungeons. So he takes 11 points of difference between the purchase of sherry and his will.
After all, regardless of the theories, we should have the answer very soon, so no need to bother the author between the bounties and the purchase of Milia, we should have the answer in less than 7/8 months ahahah
Not sure why you think we'll get an answer soon, these cards aren't described in that much detail in the novels and definitely not about these dots which seem to be a manga exclusive. After all, regardless of the theories, we should have the answer very soon
They're the artist for the manga who is taking the original LN and translating it into manga format. These cards are entirely their invention for how they envision the cards from the LN, I've genuinely no clue where you get the confidence from that all our questions on this will be answered in 7 to 8 month's time.so no need to bother the author between the bounties and the purchase of Milia, we should have the answer in less than 7/8 months ahahah
Lots of clues and details on this ID card. I think there will be more drawings on the cards when it comes to bounties or when Millia is purchased, and at that point there will be an explanation of the information on it. I deeply hope ..."Last but not least, the vase and the Reset symbol.

The problem with that is it's all but hard confirmed that every person on the planet other than Michiro can't see and doesn't know the existence of levels and things like that, for example their best estimate for unlocking the Knight job is "many years of experience as a Warrior and have talent", when the requirements are level 10 Villager and level 30 Warrior. They know of levels because of Explorer but believe only Explorer has levels outside of a few crackpots. What perhaps do you think resetting your stats would entail for a regular person?

The odds of them explaining the cards I feel is like 1%, unless somebody specifically brings it up to them on Twitter and they think to add it.Lots of clues and details on this ID card. Yes, I understand, it would be complicated to think that people don't know the levels but are able to reset them.
But that's also why I think the dots and the vase work together. When the line is full, the vase fills up, and a higher authority must authorize its emptying.
I talked about vases and resets, but I should be talking about vases and refreshes.
If taxes must be paid and/or the maximum number of cities that can be visited without refreshes is reached, once the line is full, it flows into the vase, so someone must collect taxes or the consent to visit more cities by refreshing this bar or this vase.
or else we'll have to wait another 7 years or more for the end of the manga and we'll never get the outcome ahahahah
To begin with, thank you for introducing me to the WN. (40% read)The odds of them explaining the cards I feel is like 1%, unless somebody specifically brings it up to them on Twitter and they think to add it.
That's what I'm getting at with resetting. Sure that looks like a refresh symbol or something, but resetting? I'm not buying it.
Taxes and cities visited have zero relationship. Freemen pay 100k tax per year, slaves pay 100k tax for year one and 10k yearly thereafter. There's no other taxes at all (as far as I'm aware) and there's no tax for moving around the world or anything like that it would be nonsensical.
The WN has been on hiatus for the better part of a decade now, the LN has been updating slowly and volume 13 is nearly caught up to where the WN left off but we've basically barely seen anything new for this story since about 2016. Hopefully volume 14 comes out in reasonable time and hopefully it breaks new ground, but for the most part all we have to look forward to is seeing all the novel events depicted in the manga.
But he is posing as a job he has yet to unlockWhy is the intelligence card even an issue? I thought he could just change his jobs at will
Oh, I totes forgot about that! But he is posing as a job he has yet to unlock
From what I understand the Light Novel changes the taxes. It's 100k HoH, 30k free citizens or 1st year slaves in the household, 10k all other slaves. This seems to be supported by the manga as Roxanne says that it's 100k for free citizens, but later Alan says it's 30k for Citizens and first year slaves. Unless someone lied to Roxanne about taxes...The odds of them explaining the cards I feel is like 1%, unless somebody specifically brings it up to them on Twitter and they think to add it.
