would imply that it wasn’t a suicide since the The Love Suicides at Shinagawa ends with both lovers comically walking away unharmed

that and everything in the chapter else implies they won’t, at least in the near future

Well, I do not think, that that is their intention at this moment...

Vibe wise none of the leadup is there, so it doesn't lead me to think that it would be an offscreen comedic fakeout in the end either.

If people want to hold out hope and interpret it otherwise, though, more power to them.

don’t think it’s an implied comedic ending either, but I also don’t think it’s a suicide reference

Why people call it ambiguous end? It doesn't seem they're doing double suicide especially they explicitly saying "putting on shoes". Taking of shoes and line it up is kind of a ritual for suicide in Japan. By saying they put on shoes it's like they are saying they have no thought of doing it anymore.

This really needed some more chapters, while it feels rushed it wasnt the worst we could get from an ending, axe always strikes where we least expect it.

An open to interpretation end. I like that, it concludes the story very well.

They've ran away from everything. Every stressful external pressure from where one would feel sufocated. They've done it together, and I think of it as beautiful form of love.

In my humble vision, I don't think they will commit suicide in their trip. She's found what she was looking for and it felt like a motivation for her too keep going.
