why did he change his mind? and why is Tatsuya suddenly unable to anything? You're telling me one of Kai's arms is more powerful than Tatsuya's whole body when Tatsuya is bigger and has more muscle mass than kai?
come on.. the author should have thought of some way to take Tatsuya out of the action that would make more sense.

Tatsuya is natty and he's only 70kg top. Assuming Kai's only 60kg that's not that far of a strength difference. Also the gun is the great equalizer of +100kg bodyweight so Kai got 90kg advantage on Tatsuya now roughly speaking

It's still kind of dumb and inconsistent because these are the same punks having fights with deadly weapons like baseball bats and knives and blocks of concrete so if you're willing to risk getting hit in the head or stabbed you should also be willing to risk grabbing Kai's single hand holding a pistol over your shoulder.
It would make sense if Kai was holding the gun to Tatsuya's head the whole time but instead he's pointing the gun straight out over tatsuya's shoulder and Tatsuya could easily reach up and grab his arm annd start struggling for the gun.

I know this might be stretching it but the risk is still there unless Tatsuya can disarm Kai in one hit. Also Kai might be drugged as hell so the risk is higher than ever.

I'm personally willing to give the author (Tatsuya) the benefit of the doubt on this.

When he interrupted the duel, Kyoranki were in a clear winning position and the duel was postponing the resolution. Now, Kilihito's got reinforcements and having the duel will speed up the resolution.
