Now we know they encountered by coincidence.

I feel like Yami's monologue kinda validates an argument that I was just having on 12.5, that Yami is attracted to Yuu and Hikari for mostly the same reasons. Which I think that monologue is mostly there to emphasise the tragedy of it all.

Oh man am I so glad we're getting to see what actually went down in the classroom. I, for one, am glad to see that neither Yami nor Yuu purposefully sought out the other one.

Same honestly, though I also like the author having Yami think "why didn't I just skip" and Yuu worry that he could run into Yami b/c that sort of anxiousness I think also makes sense for them. (And yes is potentially a hook for drama).

Going by what happens on chapter 23 he knew she had been held back once, so if I'm right she'd be a 3rd year if she hadn't been held back again.

He couldn't know whether she was attending again or not but there was a chance she was, or at least he probably thought so going by his reluctance to accept Hikari's invitation. Could be that there was other reason for not wanting to go but I doubt it.

We haven't really been given Yuu's POV (except briefly in the novelization of Chapter 38 at the end where he admits "I was the worst today, right?". So, since we haven't seen into his head we can only speculate as to why he never tried to get in touch with Yami after realizing he was blocked.

My current theory is his reluctance to go to the festival is two-fold. One - I think it's at this point in time he came up with a tentative plan to ask Hikari out at the festival but in typical Yuu-fashion he was hesitating/self-doubting himself and two - he doesn't want to run into Yami at all either because he's moved on or most likely because running into her would put a damper on his plans to confess to Hikari.

I feel Yuu's been wanting to man up and confess to Hikari as he kept getting hints from her that she liked him but, again in typical Japanese romance manga fashion, he has to have some sort of "perfect" moment which the festival would provide.

I'm going to go out on a limb and make a predication for next chapter. I think both Yami and Yuu have grown since their ill-fated romance. I believe they'll have a discussion where they air out what happened. Yami will apologize for ghosting Yuu and Yuu will say something like he enjoyed what they had but he's moved on. Yami will reveal she knows Hikari likes Yuu and vice versa and that she's best friends with Hikari. Yami might give Yuu a push to ask Hikari out or Yuu might tell Yami that he's planning to ask Hikari out. The kiss will not be a "I'm in love with you and want you back" thing. Instead it'll be a "we've both grown and learned something and this is a farewell/ending to what we had." However, if that is the case I think it's going to soar over the heads of a lot of people who come post in these threads lol.

Yuu monologue in the novel of last chapter mention how he got his heart broken for the 4th time and 3 of them was by Hikari. I think its safe to assume the other one is when he broke up with Yami a year ago, we gonna see what happen here between them but its most definitely not Yuu trying to get back together imo

Or Yami was being self destructive, made the impulsive move, and then backed off. But like I said last chapter, I think it'd be good for Yami to own that she likes Yuu and wants to be with him.

Big fat L for Yami simps. Yuu actually went to the classroom looking for Hikari. That said, the whole chapter feels kind of pointless — it could’ve just shown what happened between Yami and Yuu when they met, instead of giving us yet another “sad girl vibes” chapter from Yami’s POV.

It does feel a bit pointless, but maybe the author wanted to show us signs of Yami wanting to meet and/or get back together with Yuu. Like her questioning herself why she didnt just skip the festival knowing Yuu could be there, or the fact she broke the cup when she imagine Hikari confessing to Yuu.
But as you said, i think we could just started the chapter with Yuu coming into the the room looking for Hikari and went from there. We could have easily see her those thoughts of Yami during her conversation with Yuu

I don't really think yuu's that bad as many PPL critique him I'd give him the benefit of doubt for now I can't judge him till ik what's his train of thought so far this guy's been kinda sincere if you've observed him closely he's kinda the hesitant type but he doesn't have any malice intention to hurt others after being hurted by one's close to him the way he rejected the kouhei the way he looked and tried to console Yami can't really say anything for now till we get his pov he might have lied to hikari a little but let's be realistic here if you put yourself in his shoes you'll most likely lie to to avoid an awkward situation with your crush I mean why would you talk about your ex to your crush unless you're just friends
