Well we're finally finished everyone! I'm thinking its like a 3.5/10, so I guess a 4/10. It was definitely a bad series, the ending was decent, better than destroy and revolution, but the rest of destroy and revolution was better than this one. Please let me know what you all think as well.

I was actually working on this series well before I posted any chapters, trying to learn how to use softwares, not knowing fonts. So I started in March of 2024, it took me more than a year and was my first series. Thank you all for bearing with me through me being terrible at it at first, and being still not very good.

I might do another series, I only want to do series that look like they wont ever be picked up or the translators haven't posted in ages. My only thought was D. Diver, another one of Mori's works as it would be cool to have all of his works out there even if they suck, it's also an unfinished series. Please let me know if you have any other suggestions though and I will look into them. I really do want suggestions.

P.S. In the beginning, I have no idea how, but I misread MC's name is Kite, its actually Kaito, but I kinda just ran with it so sorry for my idiocy.

I feel kind of pissed off at the third wheel. Is he a eunuch or something? Why didn't he want to find a woman? Why was he happy just watching another couple being in love while he had no one? He should have either wanted to get on the boat as well so he could get to the mainland and get a gf, or if he really thought that the risk of sailing the boat was too high then he should have tried to get another woman after he had established his base.

Looking back on it, it doesn't really make sense for the main character to have such bad social skills and be so gloomy and introverted when he was a serious highschool baseball player and would have spent hours with his team mates being rowdy and joking around.

It feels like the author can only really write gloomy introverts like himself for his main character so that's his main characters personality even if the rest of the backstory doesn't make sense.

To me, a 5 is perfectly average. So like just pick a random decent slice of life with somewhat likable characters and ok humor and thats a 5 for me. This series had no humor, I hate all the characters, some chapters were hard to get through, but like it was a decent enough story. For reference my other 4's are mostly one shots, and parasyte, probably my most notable 5 would be mushishi.

The way I interpret it was he didn't want to go on the boat because both he thought it was like 99% death, and he didn't want to third wheel. Also I feel like it kind of makes sense, everyone he got close with in the series was murdered in front of him. In order to find a new girlfriend he would have to go back into the town he said he heard gunshots in, a town we know from the sequel was completely wiped out due to murder. Why would the guy with zero fighting ability walk into the most dangerous place in the world to try and rizz a serial killer woman? I feel like it makes much more sense to just give up on girls. Also saw your other comment and I definitely agree, I get him being gloomy because his family was killed and he was depressed after his injury, but he isn't just gloomy, he is straight up like socially inept which would be weird for a guy that presumably lived like 16 years being the top athlete in his whole city. Like i'd get it if he was bullied all the time, but he literally wasn't and everyone loved him. I think you're right that Mori can only write the same dude over and over. It's the same reason I feel holyland worked the most, because the MC is actually bullied so he acts like that, but theres no reason for the star baseball player to act like he's never talked to another human before.

This I bought the raws, cleaned them, one chapter was released but I think the translator is busy, the typesetter might be more available, I should talk to him again, so this might be a bigger team effort.

I can only vaguely remember suicide island but I think having an island where everyone is a murderer was a bit more entertaining than an island where everyone tried to commit suicide.

his time travel one is the least interesting of all the things he's made IMO.
Exact same " gloomy dude rapidly becomes expert hunter/warrior" as suicide island but with kind of dumb isekai setting . Lots of really dumb unrealistic things like him raising a wolf puppy that he only meets once a day that becomes fully grown in a couple of weeks then doing the same thing with a baby woolly mammoth

Thank you so much for the translation ! Holyland is one of my very favorite manga, so I always have to read anything by Kouji Mori. Holyland is far above any of the rest, but there's always something powerful in his works of the struggle to live, that touches me. So thank you for adding one to the list !

I agree that this is a mediocre series. Mori Kouji really shines when he pours his soul to the character, 'slow cook' them and adding commentary about his own life experience. I read Holyland 7 years ago, Suicide Island 11 years ago and I can still remember the feeling of 'being understood' through manga (I was that gloomy kid back then). Nevertheless, still a pleasant read just because of the nostalgic world and art style.

I enjoyed it despite it's many flaws, the ending was decent and I liked the callback to Holyland's final line as well. I don't know if it was obvious but I didn't realize the old man was the same guy from the original Suicide Island.

I don't think you could release Taiga here, unless I'm not seeing something all the chapters were taken down recently. It's a shame as my enjoyment of Taiga is on the same level as this, I would have liked to see the ending eventually. Everything Mori does is disappointing after Holyland since it seems he's determined to rehash the same themes and characters for some reason. Still, if you're looking to translate anything else he's done I'm up for reading it.
