My guess (and it is only a guess) is that there will be some other things popping up in relation to the ones who funded the new store targeting the MC's shop, and that this ep was a primarily introducing them (i.e. funders).

I am curious if the maid will show up again in later chapters though, and if so, what the mangaka will "do" with her story-wise....

I'm a bit conflicted: clear diamonds are equally a "scam", as in they aren't rare and don't hold an intrinsic value. Most of other gems also don't hold an intrinsic value, but are subject to fashions and fads...
