I don't think this is the first time we've seen this happen, either right? you don't negotiate with the gods directly, they negotiate over you.
Your comment reminds me of Elder Scrolls. In Skyrim, for example, your soul can be claimed by Hermaeus Mora, Sithis, Nocturnal, and Sovngarde all all at the same time. In Morrowind, you are claimed by Azura, Hircine, and more depending on which guild you join. Oblivion has you claimed by the Nine Divines while simultaneously becoming Sheogorath.
But yeah, the Great Ones in this setting can lay claim to land and the souls within, like Gerai and the priestess, the Window Observer and the paranoid guy, the Moon Presence and Asama's family land, and they generally don't play nice with each other, hence why you need 'separation'-based rituals like soul splitting or land descent to separate a Great One from their prey. And it doesn't always work.
