I've started to realize that this story has risen above its intended romcom genre, and has been for quite a long time. We're no longer merely wishing that the two main characters end up together. We're now exploring what it means to exist in an adult world, to overcome its challenges, and to see if their bonds are strong enough to withstand it all.
The usual weakness of the romance genre is that once the pair gets together, that's already the endpoint, and reader interest dwindles gradually. That's pretty much why romcoms tend to go on for way too long before making a confession. I myself am guilty of this, having dropped a story to no fault of its own except giving the payoff way too early. This story, just like how Nagatoro infused martial arts and art appreciation with the drama, has defeated that weakness by evolving, and became strong as a result. Author is secretly GOATed.
