maybe I'm just reading too deeply into it but Lucien's proposal seems too convenient? but I hope he has no ulterior motives and Bernadette can find happiness!
Lucien saw the potential Berna has and how it is wasted on just being a saints nanny.
So yes, his motive is to take her back to his country and make full use of her potential. But Berna later would rather fight her current situation head on and rejected his offer. WN version subtly hint that Lucien does marry berna and stayed with her instead

Wait is he a prince or a duke? The translation is being inconsistent.
So the quick things are:

Dukes/Archdukes, being the highest noble rank, are often directly related to the king. With the only exceptions being those where the bloodline of the king has changed without replacing most of the nobles.

And in addition, the smallest possible 'kingdom' (as in ruling over a certain number of towns and land) is actually a 'dukedom', where it would be ruled over a duke. It's a weird thing. And if someone rules over a city-state alone and it's immediate territory, they're considered a 'Prince' but not a king. (As in the Italian city-states and the writing of 'The Prince' by Machiavelli).

And then ADD to that the fact that Japan is very prone to honorific titles (like the term 'Hime') and you get a confusing time.

You're not wrong, especially as the wind of dukes are also called princes, but the translation is inconsistent as well, being unable to keep the lady's last name straight four pages apart lol.

On the proposal itself, it is kinda suspiciously well-timed. It might be used against her in part because her family is a marquisate, which means a special role of defending the borders. One could try and spin it into collusion with a foreign power.

I want so badly for the revenge scene to embarrass both her brother and her father. They infuriate me, her brother especially BC he's only gotten so far rn by the grace of antiquated traditions rather than his own skill, hard work or talents.
