I think italic is generally better for denoting a change of speech than bolding. Another font could be a good solution as well, but I wouldn't bother going that far.

If anything, I think the double border is pretty effective already. If you're unsure if readers are aware or not of its meaning, you could put a TL note at the beginning of the chapter or besides the first occurrence stating it.
I second the double border for English & single border for Japanese. If it's feasible to do with the RAWs, then it's just generally a very elegant aesthetic solution to differentiating between the two languages being spoken.

Charlotte doesn't want to be one of the children, Emma. She wants to be the wife.

Poor cat was collateral damage. You can see how shocked it was. If only Charlotte could say the same thing.
she doesn't want to be one of the children, she wants to be one creating the children. so they can play football as family.

Yes, it is also a pain to TS because you don't know if to use another font or use the same and bold it or just leave everything as is and pray for readers to understand :haa: if I continue it I'll experiment with other fonts and see how it looks at the end
I think it's fine to use the same font as you would use in "single-lined" speach bubbles.

Also, if I had to say one thing I didn't like in th chapter, that would be the translation of "Onii-chan" in Emmas sentences. For some reason it feel's weird for me.

Um, you know that in the raws there are these double border speach bubbles, no?
