Think of it this way. When someone has a heart attack they have trouble moving. Blood & oxygen don't flow through the body like it's supposed to, which causes the body to slow down tremendously. Did the author think that far ahead? Maybe.

You underestimate the body's neurological shock response upon having its heart crushed .
That includes seizure-like twitching and/or muscle spasms, hyperventilation in a vain reflex attempt to oxygenate the brain
and loss of consciousness within 1-2 seconds without even having the chance to reset for any kind of swing, especially with heavy ass scythe. then 2-3 seconds later comes complete brain death.

Failing to complete his swing (I assume by being block by telekinesis) was the moment he was more or less defenseless and unable to counter.

Really rare to see even an esper actually using a proper lethal strike instead of throwing random bullshit. Yeah you might be able to throw a mountain at them but hear me out, holding their heart hostage is literally better

He was doing a rolling swing. Disregarding if that move is feasible anatomically, the pure weight behind the attack is heavy.

If you argue her strength grows with shorter distances, then her initial blocking (initial battle) with shields is unnecessary, she should've been able to block the attacks regardless of shields. (As in block with empty air, or with nothing)

Bro was swinging down, unless the shock caused his muscle to spasm like an electric shock.... The weight of the attack should still go down. It would be like an executioner with an axe swinging to chop a head, and you blow his heart out with a pistol. I would wager a good chance the axe will still go down.

Page 11, you can see he seems to swing straight up and let the scyth swing down by gravity and strength. He isn't swinging sideways. Even if you cut off his strength, the scyth is still falling downwards. Unless this is equivalent to electric shock response were all his muscles spasm to hold the scyth in place. Also that scyth is coming down in less than a second with that force (initial height, weight of scyth itself and propulsion by his swing)

Mechanics aside. I still think crushing his brain was the proper solution.

Neural Shock will cause your muscles spasm and become loose in miliseconds, THAT is how powerful the spasms are.

At best in such cases the top heavy weight of the scythe should make it slip from his grip that he can no longer maintain, and without his hands to "guide" the scythe in a downwards angle the scythe should harmlessly follow a forwards semi spinning trajectory away from the girl's body (especially since his attack initiated from doing a full jumping "spin" that would give the scythe centrifugal force).
Now if that was a mid-balanced weapon like a sword he would be able to hit her regardless, but with this top heavy scythe? No.
