Depends on the object. There are some materials where the extra mass of the .44 is what you really need to punch through (M855 green-tip is only 62 grains; the slugs used in a full- power .44 loading are 300 grains). For most materials, though, velocity is what gets you through it.

However, we can maybe let it slide for one reason: The Model 29 is not just powerful. That one in particular is the first airsoft gun he bought, who knows how many years ago. He's kept it all this time. Trained with it all this time. It's the gun he knows best; it's the gun that knows him best.

That is his signature weapon, and the protagonist's signature weapon always does things that should be impossible. It has its own kind of magic

Ok, seriously. There are Elephant hunting handguns that use .50 cals. Then there is the Amutomag V ... but I'd doubt that he could get airsoft versions of these. Ok, I am partial to the exoticness of the Automag series and the fact that its last two iterations could be considered a counterpart to the Desert Eagle. Only downside is that you have to manually machine larger calibers into smaller shells to fit the mags. That's assuming I'm remembering this correctly. I considered them the go-to handgun in a story I started, but never finished writing.
