Depends on what the raws say, but I guess it could be distinguishing 百合 (pure feelings between girls) from simply レズ (girl on girl smut regardless of actual sexuality)?

This is probably the first time I've seen a manga outright say lesbianism is different from yuri.

It's true though. Most yuri is as described, blushy wushy highscool girls (or younger) going "U-uwaaah b-b-but we're both girls Machi-senpaaai! Uwaah my heart is going doki doki at the touch of your hands in mine!"

Nothing like actual lesbians, the lesbian experience and being a lesbian which many g.i.r.l.s (guys in real life, whom of which are usually men named Alice or Lilith with CS degress) like to think it is.

I read a shit ton of yuri and the amount of characters who are described or referred to as lesbians are few and far between. Contrast this with Korean and Chinese works which use the word much more frequently. The Japanese don't necessarily see yuri (and BL for that matter) through LGBT lenses like we do here in the West.
