It seems people like the girl trash character better than the rest of trash. Frankly and objectively, I think his mom is still doing her job as a mother, that girl is indeed trash, not wanting her son to be with her is understandable. Though she might have assaulted his ex wife.
No, mother isn't doing her job, she's being pretty nuts. Pestering her clearly quite adult son about marriage is one thing that's unfortunately still common, but mother was also bombarding her with judging questions from the beginning, while mentioning how she and Junya were travelling and horse-riding, basically doing the whole "are you good enough to be part of my family?" thing. That's pretty fucked up, especially doing it on the first meeting with a girl, even more so if she's hoping her son will move on, why scare away potential partner then? And the way mother just assumed she can start smoking next to her, very selfish attitude.
Also, on what basis do you think mother would get to judge her as trash? Rental girl was behaving nice to her except for one mean text in response to smoking attempt, and mom immediately after went "dump him" on her, and what's worse "you're only doing it for the money" despite having absolutely no proof of that (which is actually wrong in her case, since she clearly only agreed to do this because she was jealous of the coworker, not for the money). And giving her money to dump him is just super offensive and fucked up. Normal mother, if she thinks her son's girlfriend is bad for him, would try to advice him against dating her, while understanding that it's still his own life and choice, good or bad.

I agree that corrected MTL can be fine, I saw good examples of such scanlations of abandoned series or those never picked up, but I saw sometimes people sniping regularly and quickly uploaded proper translations with quick and lazy MTL, in which case there is even no chance for the scanlators to compete with MTL, just on speed alone - basically bad money driving out good money. And some series need a lot more knowledge of Japanese than others, due to for example cultural references or word games, or specific speech styles of characters, in which case the threshold for "decent result" would be different IMHO.
