considering his age i assume either an illness or an accident b/c any kinda 'murder ' would lead to an arrest given the conviction rate versus the 'useless police' trope

I don't know, I assume she just got ill, the high conviction rate doesn't mean the police are any better than anywhere else it just means prosecutors only take cases they "know" they'll win + probably laws that favour law enforcement
