I'll be honest, if I was her, I would start to suspect he was a stalker neighbor that already knew about her before she met him and followed her to the gym.

But this isn't that type of story so no biggie.
Seriously. It seems unfathomable that for however long they've each been living there that they had never seen each other before.

Coincidentally making her 19 can explain why she still has enough innocence to not suspect the guy obsessed with her is not a stalker who coincidentally lives across her apartment, she is not old enough to drink, vote, or think that the guy she keeps meeting everywhere is sus

Also quite the miracle that the author didn't made her 16, which is how these kind of manga usually roll

Incredible; they finally managed to surprise us with an age gap and it's not extremely uncomfortable. That said, from what I know of this author's work, they pretty consistently use characters of adult age, although usually in the college age range.

I feel like this says something about how it isn't a given for Japan (or East Asia in general) to be extremely weird about age, it's just that some people are that fucked up. By the way, did you know that since 1947 in Japan it has essentially been illegal for an adult to have sex (realistically, commit statutory rape) with someone below the age of 18, even if the age of consent was 13 (Now 16 as of a few years ago.)? The big loophole is actually that it is considered legal within marriage (also a problem in the US) on top of not being heavily punished. Just found that out just now. Huh. Hey...isn't the age that usually is used in the weird age gap stuff 16? Huh...

I mean, is it really that difficult to figure out why?

Part of the reason an age gap is looked down upon is that if it’s a large age gap, you’re dealing with an unequal power dynamic. Like, a couple who is 23 and 26? Understandable. A couple who is 54 and 27? It’s hard to say if both sides are balanced.

Here it’s 19 and 22, which is fine? They’re both adults. Shiina works at the gym Kataoka goes to, but it’s not like that gives her power over him or vice versa. If he was a college professor and she was his student there could be an issue then, but this is fine.

Oh, if you thought I was complaining in this case (which I suppose some people do complain about a 19-22/23 age gap), I'm not. This is perfectly fine, like almost the epitome of fine. I agree with you that the biggest concern is power imbalance ("power" being kind of fuzzy conceptually especially past a certain age), and the latter part of my comment was not referring to this manga but moreso to the isekai type "I'm a 30 year old man and all of these 16 year olds want to marry me" scenario, which I think we would agree isn't balanced even if we factor out all the fantasy and magic.
