This was never a spectacularly written series to begin with, and I imagine the slow release schedule with 2-3 month breaks in between chapter postings isn't helping, but I feel like I might be at the end of my rope here. It just waffles between overly long action and overly dramatic non-action, the romance tag is bullshit, and at the end of the day the conceit of trying to be creative with how the MC employs healing magic has seemingly devolved into standard shonen tropes and storytelling that I am largely done with.

None of the characters are particularly interesting either. Villains are bland and boring and the heroes just sorta bounce through everything, getting smacked down until they've filled their limit break bars and can overcome their foe.

I wish Mangadex had a "rating history" graph that could chart a series' progress over time, because I'm shocked that this is still sitting at an 8.5 after how long it's been spinning its wheels.

It's probably still sitting at 8.5 because people will rate something, forget they rated it, and then never bother to change their rating when they drop a series; it's why I typically only rate a series when I'm done with it so that it reflects my final feelings on it, rather than when I'm caught up in the moment.

True. But I would've thought that newer readers who blitz through everything before rating it could rate it lower.

Even excluding series where the fan reaction cratering is because of some specific plot issue or drama (like the one series by, I think, the Ganbare Douki-chan artist that looks like it's a childhood friend rom-com only to turn into a drama bomb about cheating and other darker stuff), I can remember series that had decent ratings when I started but saw the number dwindle as it progressed and it became clearer that it just wasn't as good as the initial arc or reactions to the art style or whatever.

Of course I'm also willing to acknowledge that my tastes are not everyone's and there's lots of stuff on here that I think is complete junk that people love for whatever reason. So maybe I'm just the oddball on this one.

Did you not read the last chapter or something?
Bro, if you think poison arrows are scary with the entire group gathered up, battle ready and with a healer present, then you should be shitting yourself just about now, with Amako being a hostage held in one place, her mom being one too and held separately, and the rest of the gang being stuck in an anti-magic prison.

The current situation is so much fucking worse. Sure, they will still inevitably get out of it just fine, but they would fucking do it way way easier if they didn't decide to give up for no reason.

The situation is only getting worse not better. They are now disarmed, split up and hostages taken. They are observed and can't make plans. At least they were armed and all together even if surrounded, now they are restrained and surrounded. Ether way they are unprepared for the attack, but now the enemy is even more in place. The only things they now have doing for them is Nea is loose and able to prepare sorcery, as well as that they can surprise the enemy by breaking out as they don't think he could rip his way out.
Both those have risks, as they are separated. It would have been far smarter to not surrender, as defending from arrows from inside a house with cover, all they needed was to push the enemies outside.
Worse yet the enemy has precognition, so the surprise attack options are huge risks. I did defend them surrendering last chapter, because I thought she was smarter, I thought she saw what was needed to win so was leading them to victory, but she was being a idiot and sacrificing herself. She should know better. She is treating her visions as unchangeable, despite knowing they are able to be changed.

I defended it last chapter thinking she knew something in which case yes listen to your precog, but she was just being a idiot. I don't fault them for trusting her judgment, but she needs to learn how her own power works, visions can be avoided, she knows this.
