There are many adaptations that merely advertise the LN yes, many series end abruptly (axed) because they don't meet the expectations with sales which also happens with original manga. But to avoid it, better reduce the amount of isekai/generic fantasy/romcom since those are the main genres where that happens. Do a little research before starting series to avoid wasting time.

Nah, people will always prefer to just read it and then complain later when the title got axed because "it wasn't good enough" in the eyes of the publisher.

I'd say most LN adaptions - anime or manga - are planned to just cover the first LN or at most two, essentially the first major arc of the story and then wrap it up. Some then are chosen to carry on, if they sold like hot cakes. Of course with some insanely popular series, their adaptions will be continued indefinitely from the start.

I'd also make a wager, that most original series are also contracted for just a few volumes and then judged if they are allowed to continue further. This is why some "sudden endings" feel less abrupt than others that clearly got axed mid-arc and told to wrap it up in X chapters - essentially the "our battle will continue" ending. The author had planned a possible ending point to the story from early on in the most likely chance that their series won't be continued for 20+ volumes.
Hot(?) take but I prefer to read a mediocre story terminated early than a terrible story with no end in sight.
Definitely. Some stories are much better, when the author has some kind of clear idea from start to finish and then just tells that story. Even if it sometimes is bit hurried along towards the end.
Rom-com and romance in general are the absolute worst at this, since nothing will happen to the status quo of the would be couple until the end, so let's continue it for 20000 gazillion chapters why not? No one will get bored of it, right?
LN Ads are suffering, additionally because the Novels are scarcely available at all here, with the online fan translation being Google Translate by a Chinese guy that doesn't seem to speak english at all
Damn does it annoy me, be it WN/LN/Manga bulk translations, be it MTL or just ESL/EN+1L with how little proofreading goes into it. Sure, if it's a solo project and you like it that way, it's hard to get someone to proofread it, but could you yourself at the very least give it a single read over to spot the obvious mistakes?
Or since you do use those damn machine powered translations, why not slap the script into another one and ask it to proofread it and fix grammatical errors and whatnot?

Rumiko Takahashi made a very good living this way, you know....

One of the things the biggest Japanese recession brought us was not only a significant drop in working conditions and quality on studios (besides some of them who had to close), it was also the change from 24 episode anime season to 12. Obviously, with half of the original length many more series could get the greenlight and they could cut them earlier in case they didn't work in numbers, which led to nowadays status quo. As for manga adaptations, they're like a milestone for novel writers, publishers know which goals a title needs to achieve and when to release each volume so it doesn't turn in a negative balance and worst case they can just finish the adaptation and redirect the new fans to the original work. Nothing personal, only business.
