What's supposed to be the lesson learned here? changing her whole image because she wants to, even though she tried that back in chapter 11-12 and he said she was cute not because of how she acted but because of how hard she tried as her usual self.

So what happens now, she gets popular and he only acknowledges his feelings out of jealously?

At this point I would be happy for this to be a lesson on how first crushes don't always work out rather than whatever the hell is going on lol

I mean we go from this

I'd also dig it if this was her learning to change for her own sake - finding the best version of herself, the one that makes her happiest, independent of the feelings/views of others, and this becomes Akira's self-actualization arc that doesn't involve chasing romance.

Whether he actually acknowledges his feelings, whether he gets jealous or just .... continues to not know if he likes her romantically or not, I'd honestly prefer if Akira discovers the "real Akira" in the end, and achieves self-possession.

Something about the "I...wanna change." kinda feels like it might be that route and it's got me a little bit hopeful, after the silent crying while eating montage (which, fuck, kinda broke me in how emotional she looked. Props to the artist, they've been nailing it since the word "go" with this one).

The first attempt was to change to be cuter in the eyes of her crush, which obviously didn't work very well. The second attempt is (implied, or at least how I inferred it) to change to be more confident, regardless of what others think of her. The earlier chapters sort of showed that she doesn't initially like being seen as a tomboy, because it "wasn't cute". But because she doesn't really look that much different in the last pages, and the fact that she's popular among the girls too sort of implies that she just doubles down on doing what she likes to do (being a very sporty girl), which is what the guy actually likes about her. And people around her just caught on.

I feel like it’s gonna be an odd combination of both, cause they showed her at the end crushing it in badminton while looking like a cuter design? So yeah it’ll be a combo that appeals to everyone, it’s just on our friend to notice it and realize how he feels.

Mhm. In a very roundabout way, Akira is becoming what Tsukimi said to her back in ch 12.

But if you say that this time around it isn‘t about being cute but more so about being confident and true to one‘s self, then why can‘t she be more confident about him? Turning this into "every guy instantly noticed so now, his fault, he needs to feel like shit and jealous to finally do something“ when their relationship was perfectly fine for their age is kinda sad.

Also, I might’ve misunderstood but was that actually a 2 week time skip? And she somehow didn‘t interact with him at all but only focused on self improvement and becoming popular? Right after all that progress?
Shit must sting, poor schmuck.

What's the timeskip means? Did they just suddenly stop hanging out together?

yup we get a time skip (I'll say at least 3 weeks because on how the calendar has been flipped to another month in page 13) has occured and it seem they've never interacted during this lapse of time (or at least with what the author has showed us).

Now, It's a bit of poor developpement. It's a bit infuriating that she want to change to be noticed and not for herself too (maybe the next chapter will prove us wrong on this point and we can see she embrace this transformation for herself).
In fact this whole chapter is dissapointing in comparison of the other sisters story.

Now, Tsumiki will react because of jealousy and fear to lost her (well we know that chase after the romance is the whole point in the story. but here, is not appealing). Even his friends ask him if it's not worried at this point. It's impossible he doesn't know, before being informed, that countless guy are flocking to her, even if they've stopped to hang out together. Well, thanks the last panel, we see he is fucking worried.

And her ? Will she wait that he run after her by playing the long game or seize the initiative ?
This chapter make me fear we'll get all the cliche next time. But hey, let's hope that the author will twist this and give us something that won't go in this direction

Thanks for the tl

I read it as she had to actually fully find herself, first and foremost. Every other time she was changing with him in mind; this time, she's fully actualizing the best version of her, for her.
I'm making a bit of an assumption here that the present iteration of Akira is the self-actualized version where it wasn't about changing for someone else. I think it'll take seeing the next chapter to confirm whether I'm correct on that.

If I happen to be right, then the follow-up to her becoming the best authentic version of herself is that the confidence she finds would be natural, and magnetic. People can sense when someone is true to themselves and is fully self-possessed in who they are, and it can be very attractive in the right circumstances, meaning her popularity exploding is just a consequence of her succeeding in her goal.
I'd honestly wager that her goal isn't even making him jealous - it's just that all her focus turned inward for the last several weeks, and unfortunately the results are that everyone suddenly has taken notice of her, and it follows that he would get sidelined, as passive as he's been in the romantic sense (not meaning that as a call-out against him, but, that's just how it's been for them both thus far).

Granted we need the next chapter to know if I'm at all accurate in that, but assuming Akira isn't becoming a villainess seeking to break his spirit, this is the interpretation that makes sense to me.

It'll be the best outcome from this chapter. Else, I'll be dissapointed if she was going by every lenght just for to be noticed by him
