When I am in a fumbling the bag competition and my opponent is sumire

If my opponent is HER, I wouldn't even show up to the competition. What's the point of facing her when she maxed her stats out in one particular area.

Sumire did nothing wrong. Umi in her self deprecation, obsessive worship and lack of situational awareness fucked up everything. As Sushi pointed out, no one was looking at them. Umi literally broke the people she loves. She's a monster.

If Sumire broke her cast rearranging Umi's face, that would have been both justified and on brand. She showed some real decorum by only making a dick joke.

If I did a joke like that on a stand-up comedy stage. I would have been sent Cease and Desist orders

Page 4: Drifting Classroom shock reference (Good manga)
Page 8 and 12: School Days nice boat
Page 12: Just fell to my knees in a Walmart

Underground idols and cosplayers, any references I missed?

I'm kinda feeling an homage to Heisei anime and manga fans for the Reiwa Era.

Sumire is the very definition of fumbling out of the endzone at the goal line.

Outside the poor "joke" at the end, unlike every other time, it's not Sumire's fault. I can't believe I could actually say this

Now, thing is: one can understand that, as a devoted fan, unico wanted to be there as her self/persona and probably boost the group reception with her popularity, but.....wasn't the plan that she was supposed to "just stand in" as the fourth member? And the moment the kids' focus was shifted on her, why didn't she redirect it on the group?
Maybe I'm expecting way too much from this manga....

Those references...

Indisputable proof that this series is read by 30 year olds and above.

DAMNIT HINAMI!
All you had to do was show up with a clean face, no one recognises you without your Unico make-up.

Still this could have been a good thing, great even.

A first lovers reunion at a school festival? That would have only gotten a couple forum posts on some obscure websites, maybe some 2chan threads. At most, one single overlooked article at an idol fandom news site.

But Unico making a surprise guest appearance at some random school's culture festival, as part of an obscure underground idol group revival performance?

THAT IS HUGE! That would have gotten a lot of media attention. What is she doing there? Why did no one know? Who are these first lovers girls? And why was she singing and dancing along with them?

Imagine the publicity, the possibilities Yuusei would have had to promote Sumire.

But of course Sumire ends it all with a boner joke.

It was over the moment she showed up on stage. There's no way to redirect people's attention to the others the moment she's recognized as the biggest cosplayer in Japan. They did do their performance, so presumably she tried, but as we've seen, she seems to severely be lacking in self-awareness (as in, legitimately seems to he convinced she's not as big as she is, or that her popularity is merely a fluke), which is how it got to this point to begin with. I don't think you're expecting too much of the manga, I think the events here are perfectly reasonable considering the characterization of everyone so far. Unico's just always been a bit strange in how much her stage persona differs from her real self.

Do note how at the end she seems to be intimidated / uncomfortable, which may well be her realising that she fucked things up for everyone else.

Again I keep wondering how fucked up any of this is. Unico took too much attention away from the hags? So what. It's a school festival, not a reality show where they're gonna get kicked off. The whole point of this event was to appease the student council. Mission accomplished, 100% success, ladies and gentlemen we got him.

Sumire made a limp boner joke? So what. They won't get invited back next year (good). The kids get something very memorable. And it's totally on brand with her youtube channel, where she gambles and fumbles through a medium she doesn't understand. This is a pratfall that should be promoted, because it's part of the appeal. "Hot woman cosplayer also does a clown act." It's entertaining!

Unico took too much attention, then Sumire brought it back with an awkward joke? That's cross-promotion. All the headlines of "Popular cosplayer shares stage with Rude Jokester" is clickbait$$$, baby. No such thing as bad press.

In conclusion, I think the "horror" is not the event itself, but the fallout. Ayumi and Souko and Sumire will find themselves getting a ton of attention and it will expose their questionable day jobs. Yuusei gets exposed for making ecchi books while in high school.

Oh,so Sumire tried to get things back on track with in inappropriate joke, that's actually a lot less worse than i figured she would do.

So this is just gonna get so much worse.

Oh no.

Edited: Wait, ah, I see what happened there. Welp.
