I don't usually comment, especially under this sort of series because this kind of stuff is to be expected, but this arc really sucked. The random (and very easily clearable, especially for this manga) misunderstanding, Akira's magical transformation into the most boring version of herself, and even after the mix-up is fixed there's that "I'm not going to give up on you".
What? So Akira still won't requite? Why? The badminton no-date thing? That's ridiculous. It really feels like the author abruptly decided to "thin the soup" by inserting a random problem/condition to maintain the "will they won't they", for a pretty unsatisfying ending to this part where it looks like Akira still won't date Tsukimi, even after he confessed to her face (multiple times) after a huge fumble she DID recognize as such. At this point, what do you even want?
Furthermore, it doesn't seem that anything will be resolved soon, because with how the situation was set up this feels like it will last for a while, and with the end of this chapter we're probably switching to the elementary schoolers.

I know I'm probably just being shortsighted and speaking too soon (I hope), but this arc irked me a bit, so I wanted to grumble for once.

Not saying it's not bait, because it relies on Chifuyu making the decision at the end of the day -
But you should maybe go back and re-read ch 19 & 20 a couple times and pay attention to how Kyouko acts versus what she says. Especially the end of ch 20.

She almost certainly likes Chifuyu, as much more than "an ideal" (I'd be money that was a cover story to try and hide her true feelings in the moment, especially given her reaction to Chifuyu saying "yeah....I like Yukito" between p9 and p10 of c19).

Again, that doesn't mean it happens, because Chifuyu knows who she likes, and as of now she's got her heart set on Yukito. But I'd be very surprised if Kyouko is doing what you're asserting here, at the end of the most recent chapter.
