There are some lolitas who despise the cosplay community purely bc they hate lolita fashion being treated as a form of cosplay, but from my own experience that sentiment is mostly dying out. After all, we share a lot of the same tips and tricks, and plenty of us are in both circles, myself included! Just keep in mind that cosplay is costume while lolita is alternative fashion, and some people wear it on a daily basis.

When you get down to it, "black tie" is also a costume, but nobody says anything because nobody really thinks if it like that. Wearing lolita occasionally doesn't seem any different to me than wearing black tie occasionally, and really the only reason I can't think of anyone wearing black tie daily is because culture has changed and almost nobody attend formal events daily any longer.
