I maintain that the online anime and manga community is one of the dumbest out there. People rushed over to Comick because they saw that Dex rolled over for rights-holders and thought "well, these guys will tell them where to shove it!" and the moment they encountered a similar issue they killed themselves instead of following the well-trodden path. What the fuck do you people think is gonna happen when you try to centralize something?
I can't lie the miasma of death comments all over were exuding about mangadex post the nuking was a bit much. I don't know who in the space isn't going to have to eventually comply with DMCA especially if they have manhwa, Korea is honestly the biggest threat to any online site. I think a just manga site not reupping official scans could go for a long while, longer than anything with manhwa anyway.
I expect every site to get Kakao or someone else knocking within months of them getting popular. Anyone charging for things way faster. The hope of a big centralising manga/manhwa site is likely not gonna go far, other than the money chasing aggregators because they tend to be out of range of legal action, other than like you said something Russian.
Ah well, I'll enjoy what we have until I no longer can. I think losing people bringing newer series and untranslated gems to light will be the greatest loss if Korea gets their way.
