Yup, it's gone for good, so she won't be learning that magic. What a waste, especially since I expect that the tome was likely sold at far less than its actual value (the kids don't know its value, are selling it off to someone who has to bear the burden of reselling stolen goods and then find someone who actually has a use for it and the money to buy it).So I'm a little confused. Considering that the boss already had extra money he could give her, he easily could have prevented this situation in the first place by paying for the treatment. But well, rereading the previous chapter, the kid had tried asking for help and his mother had apparently refused so he was left having to find the money himself, the only way he knows - theft.
Instead, she'll be getting a staff.

I keep getting more and more pissed that she seemingly has no intentions of running away at all, Boss is treating her marginally better but still letting a lot of shit slide (Not to mention how they are just yknow, actual fuckin criminals). Would think getting as far away as possible and taking a shot alone would be better than sticking around and continuing to be of aid to a crime family that has abused you.
Bruh, "taking a shot alone" is way harder and far riskier than you think. She'd be lucky if she ended up in a brothel that way tbh considering what we've seen of this world. All the magic power in the world won't mean shit if she doesn't have a solid means of protecting herself, and we've seen multiple times that she struggles with things like a child with a knife... the only thing keeping away the predators rn is the name of those criminals you mentioned.

This chapter is so schizophrenic. Mr. Boss is at the same time a criminal who "doesn't hesitate to kill", someone who "drills hierarchy into" his slaves and subordinates yet accepts them rebelling and robbing each other and himself with a literal slap to the face.
How is he drilling hierarchy into them when breaking it isn't properly punished? Normally there should have been flayings involved and not just some red cheeks, "My bad, alright" and "[...]let it slide, okay?"
They have proven to be untrustworthy, so their remaining value would be as an example for others.

So why did they not just return her magic tome to her? Like, surely the money for the staff (which was said to be higher than the tome and stuff), and the money in that bag, are both enough to retrieve it? So use your ability to trace it (have kid tell where he sold it) and overall status (he's a crimelord! and the buyer is a fencer!!!) to get it back? Could probably even get it back at same price the kid got for it due to the latter.
Hopefully this is the straw that breaks, making her realize she is better off running away and trying her hand at living by herself. With the staff, some clothes, and that huge starting capital, it should be very doable. Just needs to either get transportation out of their zone of influence to ensure they can't chase her down, or talk with the boss to leave on good terms (could even leverage this event, but would prolly need to give up on the staff then). Likely they will still demand to retain a connection to her (like giving intel or whatever), but that could even be leveraged for stuff like being declared no-touch and given underworld protection, etc.
Still, that comment really reads like a spoiler.
Yeah really annoyed he got away scot-free. Not only did he steal from within the group (which should be a big no-no), but he also stole from (and locked up etc) someone above him in the hiearchy (which makes it a huuuge no-no, particularly how much importance the boss puts on hiearchy)! And there was a huge risk of lethal force too (that group has made examples of ppl for less)!
