well not really melfina never trick kelvin but let just said she got fooled
as for why

the dark god is melfina dark desire that arise when she killed kelvin in his first isekai (yup this is not the first time kelvin got isekai) at the time kelvin is still a battle maniac he is manage to sprout the seed to become the demon lord and manage to hide it so well that he even travel with the hero and melfina at the time.
still the demon lord influence start to affect him more that he end up facing the hero as melfina got shock by the truth kelvin said (at this point she already love kelvin that she can't choose) and because kelvin a battle maniac that he is, he manage to defeat the hero with ease but that in turn activated the emergency system that is being install to all angel.
The system is the nearest angel to the demon lord will receive a special weapon that design to specifically kill evil entity (it has the ability so seal away any negative power) and by the way this is a forcefully as well so mel which is angel at the time got choosen and she stab kelvin from the back.
This make her angry and sorrow so much that her wing turn in to black and make her a fallen angel that she will never forgive the god or the system to take kelvin away from her.
that is why she aim to become a god but because she turn in to a fallen angel she can't become a god because she has so many negative energy which is why she took a gamble and used the weapon to herself which she manage to pull but at the cost she become two and her innocent self emerge.
the pure mel forgot about everything but for the dark mel this is a chance because when the pure mel manage to become the god she used her for a lot of thing for example
the first one is she force the previous god in to the body of the saint and make her live then make her think that she is the previous goddess which mel forcefully take the power of (yup which is like you guess it the one kelvin fighting now)
the second one and the last was she is the culprit who killed kelvin (the second time in earth) so she can reincarnated him in this world (she is doing this behind pure mel back that she think it was her mistake but it was not)
