lol, even other isekai protagonist know when they say pay with silver they mean coin. He has even less common sense than them who also has little common sense.
in fact, this is the first time i saw one that made a mistake in paying. Closest would be Makoto paying with gold coin but that can be attributed to him being in a hurry because some communication he received seems urgent(it is not and he scold them because of it).

.... Jesus H. Christ, this guy is some special kinda stupid whipping out goddamned SILVER BULLEON just tp pay for some cheap clothes. I mean, I get it, yeah. They use silver coins. But if he's studied any history at all - even basic high school history - then he'd know those are cheap silver coins. A fucking kilogram of the 99.999% pure shit would be like whipping out a briefcase packed full of US$500 bills!
EDIT: Yes, I chose US$500 as a denomination on purpose. They do actually exist, they're just not in "circulation". If you ever do see them, then you're involved in a very high dollar-amount transfer from one very big bank to another so they can maintain the minimum reserve of cash-on-hand mandated by law. In other words, this is not a denomination that even wealthy plutocrats have access to, and thus how outlandish it would be to have a briefcase full of them.

The way this character has been framed and also the way the scene is framed makes it pretty clear that he's playing mind games to me. From the outset, he has had a very clear if not perfect plan to convince the inhabitants of this world that he is actually from their world while still making a profit/seemingly later on wanting to change the world. We haven't seen him be taught about how money works in this world unlike many isekai where the helpful tutorial guy/girl shows up to explain some incredibly simple system and he is 100% pushing boundaries; I suppose we're kind of used to "weak" isekai protagonists who aren't intentionally trying to woo characters but the girls/boys fall for them anyway but in this case the effort is intentional; he's sweet talking the knight girl, he's sweet talking the noble girl, he's sweet talking the merchant guy, he's two steps away from hooking up with a milf for god's sake /s
But yeah this is just another incident in a series of efforts to come off as more inexperienced and naive than he actually is, even if he might not be too effective at it.

i mean specific fillings aside you'd think something like a sandwich would be common esp for adventurers on teh go unless they only eat stale bread with like stew over campfires
Wonder if tipping culture is a thing in their world XD; It's on them for giving him silver bars and not some kinda bank account or so but maybe it'd be better for others to pay for him and him providing materials
i would try to go to every shop and befriend all the shopkeepers/owners and then sell them materials later on too or do a trade haha. maybe he can give her cloth to make custom clothes later
