I fucking love this explanation so much. I'm sick and tired of some (usually tragic) events just inexplicably fixing themselves into place in time travel stories. The time traveller failing and letting a natural consequence of previous actions play out too many times in the same spot, making it stuck there, is about as good as we're ever going to get, I think.

Though at the same time, Kriemhild making the revenge wish (specifically) should've been repeated about as many times as her death and Siegfried's murder by Hagen, so it should've been fixed as well. There's that inconsistency now, but at least there's some logic to the fated events in the first place now too, so I'm perfectly happy to have it like that, to make that exchange.

There's a nice detail about how Siegfried is killed by Hagen - it's actually true to the Nibelungenlied. In the poem, Siegfried receives the same treatment because he's invulnerable except for one spot on his back.
