A damn shame. A lot of the rose knights did die, it got a lot messier than it got better.

Wait is the author doing season 2 first next or the gaiden/side story of Itami in the special region for 1 year? Because we'd be waiting a long time just to finish that season 2, with none of the original cast if that's the case.

Logically, the side stories should come first. There's no way we should wait 10 years just to read the conclusion of Itami's story. And those who have read them say the side stories aren't that long. Or, if the author has the energy, make them simultaneously.

By the way, regarding season 2, I saw the status on novelupdates is "Hiatus/Uncompleted." "Hiatus" and "Uncompleted." I usually only see "Hiatus" for novels that haven't been updated in a while. Did something happen with season 2? Did the author drop it? Or axed? Maybe it's just me, but season 2 seems less popular.

Seriously, this is why you double tap. She turned her back on a dying man that's twice her size, it takes a lot longer to bleed out than you'd think.

I feel a bad for Tyuule because she tried so hard to be redeemed, but then I remember that she chose this fate. She had the chance to walk away from it and instead pursued vengeance. RIP Hamilton too, girl deserved better than she got.

Huh? Where did we see her die? That was Shandy and Suissesse protecting the Emperor, unless you're saying Pina ordered her there and I missed it. Wiki even says she's alive.

Yeah... that's it... in short...

1. The gate is sabotaged.
2. The gate unstable, the path to Ginza closed, and a new path to an unknown world open.
3. Bugs emerge from the new path.
4. Battle vs Bugs inside the dome begins and Starship Troopers theme played.
5. Lelei open an emergency path to Ginza outside the dome.
6. The JSDF evacuates, except for those who wish to stay behind and the main forces on the front lines facing Zorzal. They are too far away to reach Alnus in time.
7. The emergency path to Ginza closed.
8. The bugs exit the dome, the battle spread outside the dome.
9. Itami blew up part of the base's fortress wall to erase the magic circle.
10. The gate explodes, and the path to the bugs world closes.

The novel's epilogue seems to have been intentionally left out of manga, as the manga author was planning to adapt the side story/gaiden novel into manga too. Since the side story/gaiden novel takes place before the main novel's epilogue, it seems the author chose not to include that epilogue now, but instead later at the end of the side story/gaiden.

Timeline : GATE 1 main story -> Side Story/Gaiden -> GATE 1 epilogue -> GATE 2

That's why in other series, lack of technological progress is usually balanced out with magical progress as it's equivalent. However, the author decided to nerf magic from the start. If the JSDF got isekaid into another world with better magical progress/strength, things would have been a lot more interesting, and harder for the JSDF.

I think the magic shown in this manga is pretty reasonable, not even nerfed. Its pretty run of the mill for a fantasy setting. The spells is pretty standard and the mages are rare but prodigies like Leilei and her master are even rarer, legit most of the manga's I've read through have a similar system and scarcity in mages, especially great ones.

Rory is in their side though... to be clear when I said fantasy side I meant larger scale and from the hostile side involving armies or countries.

I at least like the part with Lelei improving magic when she learned about modern concepts like physics. Missed opportunity for that info to leak into enemy hands, and their magic (and the enemies in the isekai world) to improve.

The thing is Lelei's iconic explosion magic is only the equivalent of a small HEAT projectile that we have in the modern world (think the RPG-7), while it is useful against the old tanks and light APC's fielded by the JSDF and can probably pierce them (no idea if the skill of a mage translates into the penetration capabilities) it would still prove to be negligible in the grand scheme of things. Its one thing to mention how mages are very uncommon, but also the fact that any open battles involving entire armies with tight formations (like what you're talking about) will always be broken and dissolved within minutes due to JSDF artillery and air superiority (Artillery is king of battle for a reason), Lelei's magic would straight up only work well in ambushes since a good chunk of a fantasy army would be dead or dazed before the enemy gets close enough to have spells chucked at them.

All in all, Gate is a pretty good representation of what happens when you pitch a run of the mill fantasy world against a modern one, being absolutely stomped (in open battles) isnt even propaganda its what would happen. The only way you'll see fantasy win some victories is if the author adds in over the top manhwua level spells and handing them over to every mage like AK-47's and small African children, or if the fantasy world is set at a much later and advanced time period where their shitty fireball spell is able to evolve into something more deadly and magic as an insitiution is more widespread, akin to how education became more widespread in our own world, but thats another genre entirely.
