South Korea is arguably in the worst shape, having the lowest birth rate - but Japan is aging faster.discombobulate
I don't think there's any economic framework that inherently preempts circumstances such as Japan's.
Are you making a satirical comment about how incredibly out of touch Romney was or are you serious?South Korea is arguably in the worst shape, having the lowest birth rate - but Japan is aging faster.
From personal experience in my late 30s, I can assure you that declining birthrates in "developed" countries are real. The people in power and policy-making continue to squeeze "productivity" out of fewer and fewer people while leaving even less means (financially) to support a family. Hell just to give you an idea, an American middle class family earns "250k+" a year (according to Mitt Romney back in 2012!). If we adjust for inflation, the same family would need to be making 350k+ in 2025 to be equal to 250k in 2012.
For reference, US Median (not Average/Mean) income per house hold is about 70-80k since the 2020; one can surmise we've all been living as wage slaves above the "poverty line" in the US of A.
It was intended as a satirical comment (and fact) about the warped realities most politicians live or believe in. You can literally look up Romney's statement to this day. From there, use some thinking skills and research how much it costs to raise a child, putting them through school while juggling auto, insurance, and rent/mortgage on a stagnant income. Are you making a satirical comment about how incredibly out of touch Romney was or are you serious?
According to the US Census Bureau (through an AI search) in 2012 median household income was $51,017. By the definition of "middle class" as 2/3 to 2 times the median income (there are other definitions) the middle-class family would have earned $34,000 to $102,000 per year, or in 2025 dollars $47,000 to $50,000 on the lower bound to $140,000 to $150,000 on the higher bound.

I can use my remembering skills as an adult who raised two daughters, put one through college with a Masters degree (the other dropped out and later married), and paid off a mortgage, all while getting raises that were not much more than inflation, saving for retirement and saving for school. It was intended as a satirical comment (and fact) about the warped realities most politicians live or believe in.
