I think they were talking specifically about the reflections in the eyes, water drops, and reflective surfaces. TLR Darkness was famous for it - just look at any scene involving water and a naked girl - but it doesn't seem to have spread to other manga until this one.

Honestly though, I think another poster got it right when they said that this more like if Tomoki from Sora no Otishimono got Lala instead of Ikaros.
