I think the way Maruto is playing w/ themes here, Hikari's demand for honesty is supposed to be a brave/bright contrast to the cowardice/shadows that plagued Aya and Yuu's relationship
Not. Hikari is not demanding honesty to Yuu. Again, if that was the case, she wouldn´t be ghosting here in LINE, she wouldn´t be avoiding him, etc. She is repeating, step by step, the actions of Yami after the ghosting to Yuu, only without the advantage of geographical distance who made so easily to Ayami destroy any connection with Yuu.
All the Hikari actions in chapter 44 are a good proof her encounter with Yami in chapter 41 WAS NOT PLANNED. It was other accident more in an already very horrible day and probably she thought Yami would have already returned to her house.
Hikari wants Yuu literally accepts being lectured by her to pardon him, and all this by his own initiative. He has to return to her to being punished, like Yami expected from him too in chapter 40. The problem is Yuu only will do this if you order him directly -like Haru and Ayami did it-, Hikari didn´t do it. She will need more if she wants to exploit the masochist side of Yuu, like Haru and Yami did it.
So, Yuu is right again, Hikari only needed a days more to fulfill her promise to Yuu mother and going to Yuu house to lecture him like Haru did. Haru only, I hope, fastered the process.
Also, the Aya and Yuu relationship was not plagued by cowardice/shadows. It was the Hikari / Yuu was plagued for cowardice/shadows from both sides and, to be fair, I will concede Hikari doesn´t want continue with this and taked the correct decision in this. But she should ask openly her questions to Yuu instead still following he reads her mind like she does in chapter 44.
Yuu was always honest and sincere with Yami and really opened his heart to her. And to be fair, there are several moments, again, like chapter 28, when Yami is really sincere with him and really believes all is fine.
Hikari started off the confession chapters pulling an Aya of wanting Yuu to read her mind, but when that didn't work Hikari decided to tell him what was wrong rather than accepting a relationship plagued with what ifs. Unlike Yuu telling Aya that she always lies, Hikari pushes further by telling Aya that she (Hikari) knows the truth and it's not something Aya should be afraid to tell her (Hikari).
This happened only after ten minutes of silence where Aya was looking Hikari without say words. So, other proof that encounter was not planned and Hikari needed much time to get the enough courage to confront Yami. And anyway, all the weight of the dialogue is carried by Yami, the responses of Hikari are very brief and to-the-point.
And honestly, Hikari reacts in that way, IMO, precisely by how Yami blamed of everything to herself and painted herself as the villain (the same method, for certain, Aya already used after all the "joke" old dirty man thing).
Is only because Ayami assumed the entire responsibility and asked for pardon to Hikari is we can see how Hikari reacts and says Ayami is not a bad person and assuming a compassive position to her. And yes, is only in this point she wants the truth, only after all the entire detailed fake account of Yami and after Yami gave her the high ground moral position.
A Hikari who couldn't put herself in Yuu and Aya's shoes would've just bounced after the kiss and blocked their numbers.
She doesn´t need block Aya because Ayami already blocked her. Also, she doesn´t look Yuu after the kiss, she is only in the window, still frozen and shocked to make something, is only after Yuu giving apologies to her -and this is the point where Hikari realizes Yuu doesn´t know she saw the kiss- is when Hikari takes the initiative for once and carries him to the dance when he proposes exactly the opposite -return to home-.
So, other proof of Hikari being EGOIST (with, of course, the physical aggresion to Yuu precisely to emphatize this point). And this is the reason why Maruto tweeted in X, in a response to Yom account, he would do Hikari more like Eriri from Saekano just before chapter 44.
And why she wants Yuu to tell her what's going on so that she can understand the situation well enough to figure out next steps. Which is also why Hikari told Aya and Yuu why she's upset and how to fix it rather than just hoping they'd read her mind.
Not. If she really wants Yuu to tell her the truth, she would ask for responses through LINE. You are here attributing again to Hikari the DECISIONS TAKEN BY HARU.
Haru is who really did all the things you attributed to Hikari and who had acted here with real bravery and honesty and who really putted herself in the shoes of Yuu and Yami.
Dude what? When do Yuu and Yami take on blame for things they didn't do wrong?
Precisely chapters 40, 41 and 43. Yuu practically blames himself for all the cultural festival -and the failure of the exam- events in his dialogue with Haru and Yuki. Yami with her lies is precisely take on blame for things she never did -being a whore who played with Yuu-
And of course, the LINE messages of Yuu to Hikari in chapter 44.
