my assumption is that they became psychos as a result of overusing the ring probably caused their sanity as well since they completely overused it compared to kuro while kuro's sanity is partly slipping away from him just from using it as a neccessity

It seems like a shitty thing to take them back instead of having a group therapy session with him included being truthful with one another. Just tell them to stop using the rings like that.
