the text was confusing as a lot of it was gender neutral terms (+ otaki is a gender neutral name), but i figured since they were twins, it was more likely they were brothers but im still not entirely sure
... so Otaki was a girl, right?
Otaki was indeed a girl, or atleast was meant to be portrayed as one. They have female clothing in all the scenes they are in.

Yup, female clothing/hairstyle, plus historically generally only women were referred to with the honorific "O-" + first name (her first name being Taki, hence Otaki), though this practice stopped around the post-wwii period

@oribloom if you need any help proofreading for historical context and stuff feel free to reach out! would be happy to lend a hand

Hmm I knew the story was going to be about the executioner, but it's an interesting choice to make the first chapter from the point of view of a character that didn't return for the second chapter 🤔 Now that the POV follows the executioner, I wonder if he will stay as mysterious as he was initially presented. Very curious to find out the angle from which the author is playing this story out.

Wow, that was fast! Thank you for continuing translating!

But yeah, since it was never stated that Otaki was pretending to be a girl (or something like that), we can assume that she is indeed a girl.

But I get you. Japanese's gender-neutrality makes it a little harder to translate sometimes.

idk i feel like this manga is not very connected to reality. The excerpts all come from situations where the death of the victim leads to something good or is a relief for the prisoners themselves, when in reality, hundreds of victims would be falsely accused and die full of regrets, every death seems to be something which makes the MC look like a saint when in reality he is literally just a robotic tool of the law, regardless of it's veracity
